Hot? Santa Cruz + Altec Lansing 251 5.1 Speakers $99

CompUSA has a deal through Sat, buy the Altec Lansing 251 5.1 speakers and get a Santa Cruz sound card FREE, AR, for $99. (Rebate breakdown is $60 INSTANT and $20 Mail In)

This seems like a good deal to me on a great sound card and good speakers!

Does anyone have these speakers? and if so, are they digital?

What do you all think?

slow! but it comes 🙂

my 8-10 week delivery turned into 5 months. but it came!

i also think that santa cruz only has a 20 dollar rebate or something. i forget.

Hi All,
This seemed like a nice hot deal to me, as I was heading up there only to buy the Santa Cruz for $80- I didn't even know about the sale till I got there! With a $60 instant rebate at the register- that made it a sweet deal. After rebate- only $20 more, and I got a set of 5.1's.

Ya- I know they are elite- but I didn't have a set. I can upgrade later. To be honest- they are still sitting in my trunk sealed in the box since Monday. I installed the Turtle Beach Monday.

I could not find this combo bundle online; is it B&M only? Also, how does the Altec 251's compare to the Logitech Z540 (weeks ago this combo w/ SCTB was $80 instant/no rebate) with respect to music sound quality? BTW, I've heard the Altec 641's; and they're sweet (but double the 251 cost)!

TIA 🙂

Has anyone done this yet?

If so how is the receipt broken down?

The rebate form only requires the UCP from the 251s.

Thanks,

Wade

gleaned from compusa:

Regular Retail Price:... $179.98
Instant Saving:.........- $59.99
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You Pay:......................$119.99 (Price after instant rebates, if any)

Mfr. Mail-in Rebate:....-$20.00 (Altec Lansing speaker)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CompUSA Price:...........$99.99 Price after instant & mail-in rebates

My Question is though, how much are you paying for each item after the instant rebate?

and if I didn't like the speakers and wanted to return them, how would CompUSA give me credit??

Anyone purchase this and have the receipt breakdown?

Thanks,

Wade

I didn't buy this combo, but this is the deal from the flyer:

Buy the Altec Lansing 251 speakers (review) and you'll recieve a $60 IR on a Santa Cruz + $20 Manuf MIR.

Can you return the speakers and still keep the Santa Cruz w/ rebates? Someone's gonna have to bite the bullet and scan their receipt.

EDIT
BTW, I think the last day for this is 9/7.

I just had my mom buy this combo and she is on her way home now but I am on my way out to baseball. I think I am going to try to return the speakers(I want a different set of speakers) and see if I get full credit for them. I will keep you guys posted.

Picked this up today.

Receipt reads: Speakers $99, Sound Card $20

I may try to take back the speakers, as I am not to impress with them in the store.

They aren't bad.

Just not what I was looking for.

You're NOT going to get digital speakers for $99. Try more like $200-300.

creative has their playworks dtt 2500 which comes with a dts, dolby digital decoder uses optical or coax out for 79 ! refurb but still an awesome price. I t comes with a whole bunch of cables and accesories like the stands for the rear speakers and mounting brackets. I used the have the sound works dtt 2500 ( same thing but no optical in) for a year ...its great for watching movies..but the bass cant keep up with the highs at loud volume. def. worth the 150 i paid for it at staples with a PM and coupon.
I gave them to my dad early this year who loves connected to the dvd. true home theatre sound for cheap !

speakers @ creative

also those FPS2000 Digital for 50+10$ shipping is a good deal too if you just want digital speakers

I tried to return the speakers, but they said they would have to deduct the instant rebate from them.

But I had a "Good" CS rep.
My receipt says nothing about the instant rebate, so I may try later this week.

The worst that can happen is they tell you no.

Wade

Yup. That is what the receipt says. I tried to return the speakers today as well and that was a no go. I am going back monday for one last try. If not, I will keep them(got good reviews are the net so far) and try returning the santa cruz for $80 even though the receipt says $20. Don't think that will work but worth a try.

Thanks Wade. I guess you could get lucky with anther CSR.

Anyone know how this compare to Logitech 540z? I just bought this yesterday and was wondering how it stack up to altecs.

I think it will work returning them next week, as the CSR had to grad a circular to look at the deal.

My receipt does not show the instant rebate.

So monday or Tues I'll give it a shot.

As far as the quality goes, these aren't too bad.

They have good overall sound.

My only beef is the bass on them, though strong, is a little too mid-bass-ish for my taste.
But then again I am picky. I worked in radio for 6 years. 🙂

The highs are good, and the bass is strong, in fact I had to turn the bass down, to get the overall sound I like.

I won't be unhappy if I get "stuck" with these. 🙂
