64gb

At first I didnt think this was that cheap, but realized they were SLC. the 64gb drive seems to retail for $400+ at most places. I don't think these are as fast as the intel SLC drives.. but its probably on par with the intel MLC drives.

the 64gb is the hotter one obviously. they have 150 of each one as of this posting. I will not be buying one, but figured there are probably people here who are interested in these things.

Excellent, thanks! In for 1. I've been wanting to play with an SLC SSD for a while now, but they simply haven't been cost effective. I've seen firsthand the long-term slowdown that the Intel X25-M goes through, so this will make an interesting comparison...

Sweet! I've got three of these 32GB drives in laptops and desktops, not a whole lot of noticable speed over my Intel X25-E. Plus I paid almost $400 each for the 32GB's. Thanks hans007, in for two 64gb drives!!

SLC Drives! I wonder how this compares to the Intel SLC drive? I hear MLC is NOT the way to go, and always opt for the SLC versions of SSD's!

wait just read through the entire OP's post. Yeah... Wonder if I should bite... It's either this or go with Intel MLC...

there was a tomshardware roundup, that said it was about 100mbs read and 80 something write.

so it wasnt as fast as the intel one.

I have a couple of the 32GB OCZ drives which are supposed to be identical to these, except for the label. Of course, I paid a lot more, but they are snappy. When I get a chance, I plan to try them in RAID 0 which, at least per benchmarks, looks even quicker. So you might consider two of these.

I guess i'll wait for the Intel SLC to go down... hopefully we'll see a 64gb or a 80gb of their SLC tech

They have a lot slower read speeds, but read speeds aren't necessarily the main point of having an SSD. Low access times and no moving parts (durability) are what they truly offer.

Mine has been shipped from Geeks and tracking shows it as having left Memphis on schedule for delivery tomorrow (3/11). All in all the fulfillment time is quite acceptable.

After reading that the newly-released OCZ Vertex SSDs suffer from the same long-term performance degradation that the Intel X25-M suffers, only WORSE, I just pulled the trigger on two more of these Samsung drives. Yes the read speeds are nowhere near that of the Intel, but for a boot drive I'm more concerned with (1) IOPs and (2) longevity. What good is a lightspeed system drive if you have to erase the blasted thing every month or two?

Heck these Samsung 64GB SLC drives are currently selling for $75-100 more on eBay than Geek's shipped price. No downside...

Newegg selling for $175 now. These would seem to blow the MLC competition out of the water. 2 million MTBF and no stuttering issues. Might finally be able to upgrade a our SQL server.

That's not the same drive. That's a 1.8" drive, vs. the usual 2.5". It appears it needs some kind of power adapter to work as a standard laptop/desktop drive as well.

Thanks OP. I'm a bit late with this post because of ground shipping to the east coast, and then finally getting around to installing the drive yesterday. Anyway, I tested Windows 7 public beta on it and the install went smoothly. The drive is snappy and a welcome upgrade over the 5400 RPM laptop drive it replaced.

Geeks was very fast, too, the drive shipped a few hours after placing the order.

SSD FTW!
