I heard that this is a good road bike. Don't be going off roading on this one, though.

does anyone know anything else about this bike, I'm sure if it was 250 then at 99 it's a steal, but was wondering if any other people out there who know stuff about biking - is it a good buy if we only wanted to spend at most 300 for a bike? thanks....

I suppose it's not too bad a deal as long as the buyer understands he's getting a 50 pound "lead sled." Honestly, it's bikes like this Motiv, current Mongoose, Pacific, et al, that drive more people out of cycling than into it. The construction is second-rate, the assembly is poor at best, and despite what is told to you, it's effectively only got one of those "wave" guarantees..........guaranteed as long as you can see the salesman waving goodbye to you.

Yup. I bought a Mongoose since it was supposed to be a decent bike for the price (the model I got was $210). Biggest piece of crap ever. I returned it after a couple weeks. The gears kept "popping". I'd pedal normal, it was fine, but if I was pedalling hard (like up a hill), it would slip/pop, whatever. Switched it for another of the same model since I figured I got a bad one, but the new one did it too. Returned that one. I'm going to hold off until this Spring and get a nice bike and get my fat ass some excercise.
Doesn't that company make Roadmaster too?

$300 is considered entry level for a hardtail bike (that is, a bike with only a cruddy front shock). Full suspension bikes cost more because the frame is more complex and usually serve the purpose of much riding downhill which has the potential for a lot more abuse. This particular bike is really heavy and should only be used going downhill -- but the catch is the components wont last very long trying to do this. Heavy bikes are no fun at all even on level ground, not to mention going uphill, which is what most new bike riders will be doing. I suppose you could upgrade the components along the way, but that will cost a considerable amount of $$ since all the components on this bike are likely to be poor, plus you'll still have a heavy bike in the end.

Update. They are gone. Too good of a deal. I'll bet someone picked up a bunch and will now sell them on e-bay or somewhere and make a good profit.

When I was there, there where over 2 dozen. Now they are gone!

As for the quality of the bike, it's a OK brand. But it's the components that was worth it. It's a 24 speed duel suspension alumium bike with quick release on both alloy wheels. I've seem these at $299 on catalogs and online before and I know I could have bought some and sold them for at least $150 to $200 now.

Too bad.

I picked up one for my son. It is a fairly small bike. He is about 5' 9" and the seat won't go near high enough; so I need a longer seat post. The handle bars are too close to the seat for an adult and sweep back which makes it even worse. And the gearing is strange. Even with 24 speeds, the high gear is lower than my older 21 speed Motiv. The manual had absolutely nothing in it about the suspension or how to adjust it.

I've an older model Motiv I got at Sam's a couple of years back w/ standard suspension. I paid about a hundred at the time and I'm pleased w/ the deal as a whole. Lower quality Shimano components w/ sealed bearings all around but what can you expect in a cheap bike.
