the RIO500 is actually $179. check the diamond website and you'll find the most updated price. Even their own website is selling at $179 😉.
 
just stopped by my local compusa - they had two on the shelf. got one.
thanks for the deal - i've been looking for a rio anyways, this is like getting the burner for free.

edit: your receipt will say nothing about the Rio MP3 player, so alternative measures are necessary.
 
This is an okay deal. Not scorching hot. My CompuUSA has tons of these combos. It's all together in one combo box. Not seperate retail boxes.

The Rio 600 sells for $169 at CompUSA and is un upgrade from the 500 (obviously).
 
i checked local bestbuy, it has this combo at $249.99, and when i went to
CompUSA, they told me it is $299.99 but i insisted them to scan the box,
the result is $199.99, looks like they are pretty surprised with this price
themselves. interesting.
 
RIO 500 is said to be much better than the 600... I wouldn't touch a 600 with a big stick, screw the memory backpack thing, that's just a way to extort more money out of people. I'm gonna go check out my compusa tomorrow to see if they have any. (Buffalo CompUSA)
 
when someone actually get this package. can they tell me if its just a combo box or 2 retail boxes inside. although i suspect its the former rather then the later.

Ok, To clear up all the confusion out there amongst those of you who are deciding whether or not to buy this HOT HOT HOT DEAL. I just went down to the local Compusa and bought it for $199 + tax. I came home and opened up the box and there are in fact TWO RETAIL VERSIONS< ONE OF EACH inside, with upc barcodes and sku's. The rio is a sealed retail version and qualifies for the rebate of $50 big ones. The Hp burner is a sealed reatil version that alone goes for $150. Good luck to all who get this AWESOME DEAL. I would hurry like a MF to the stores!😀

I bought two of it.
About rio 500 rebate , it is maybe not quanlified.
Because one the receipt , It only said &quot;HP 8*4*32 INT CDRW 199.99&quot;
Nothing about the Rio 500 , or hp music duo.
So maybe call the rebate center to ask about that.

I wonder if this is a limited time deal or something that will be around for awhile. I'm going broke over here saving money! 😉 Yeah, somebody let us know how your receipt looks, it would be much sweeter with the $50 rebate.
 
not a hot deal at all, receipt says only HP CD-rewriter, nothing mentioned about
Rio 500. i don't think diamond will honor the rebate.

 
If you buy this online, the Compusa Receipt will have this:

For those that are going down to the local CompUSA and is only lusting after the Rio 500 and not the somewhat average HP burner, try to hook up with someone in line at the counter looking for a cdrw and have no interest in this deal and split the cost. Maybe give them the drive for $100 and you go home with a $100+tax Rio 500.
 
The CompUSA I went to this afternoon had a bunch of them. I'd say at least 10 or 15 of them. At first I couldn't find them and asked a salesperson if he had any of these in stock. He knew exactly what I was talking about and pointed me to a display in the center of the store. A big 'ol stack of them left. I helped myself to two of them, one for me, one for my sister.

This item didn't seem to draw a lot of the customer's eye, not when compared to the Iomega 12x10x32 where I had to crawl over two people just to get one (and go to 2 stores)! 🙂 So I imagine there'll be plenty left even tomorrow.

I will confirm that it comes in two boxes, both of them retail.

I just wanted the MP3 player, and got a $20 CD burner for my trouble! 🙂
 
This is a good deal but it's a pain in the ass. The only way you can get the $50 rebate is if you put out another $200 dollars to get a Rio 500, photocopy the receipt, then return it.
