Hot Rental Car Deal From Enterprise

Awesome deal, but just heads up... Enterprise overbook more than anyone else and often do not honor reservations. They've overdone it with suburban locations without enough supply.

In my experience Enterprise has always been very pushy with their insurance and seems to randomly give out cars. I've never had such problems and quite often get class upgrades without requesting them from Hertz (and fairly decent rates with a USAA discount). YMMV.

Isn't this the same deal they've been having for ever? Weekends have always been 50% off AFAIK.

You are refering to 9.99/weekend day compact special they ran for a long time. This one just started a month ago. Old deal had 100 miles/day restriction

Enterprise does push their insurance scam. Just insist on your own. as long as you have insurance and use A Gold card or better, you are fine. If you must you can by CDW for cheaper from Travelguard (9/day)

I had a friend who worked at Enterprise. They wrote him up many times for failing to sell the insurance plan - liability insurance, waivers, claimers, etc. In fact, sometimes they even scare the customer into buying the plan. It's similar to the ESP or PSP plans sold by retail stores like Best Buys. Even if they say "you crash the car with their insurance plan, you can just walk away," that's a total lie because you are liable for civil and criminal damages.

Secrets & Tips:

1. Enterprise does not have unlimited mileage with their specials. It will cost you extra $10.00 or more, and you're limited to a 2000-3000 mile gap before you return it. They say its for car maintenance, but similar companies like Dollar do not have that restriction - unlimited mileage should be unlimted mileage --- not 200 a day or other bs. Enterprise says that its to maintain the value of their fleet for pre-owned sales, but it just may be another way to milk customers for money.

2. If you really rent for them (or from another company) make sure that you walk 360 degrees around the car, and look for any damage, like scratches and dents. Cars from their fleet were usually rented out by someone else on the same day - and then rented to you when it was returned and not inspected carefully. Enterprise likes to blame renters who didn't get their insurance for any damage, such as dents, window dings, emblem damage, etc.. Take photos if you have a camera phone, and show it to them if they blame you.

3. Look at the poor sales force sometimes, they dress all nice - but have to wash the cars by themself sometimes. Imagine having to wear a tie, and then do a car wash. It's a tough job my friend says - and if you fail to meet your quota for the month in insurance sales, you're going to the bottom of the heap; keep it up and you'd be off a job.

4. Even if you deny their insurance coverage plan, be sure that you have some sort of coverage - good or adequate. This is a rental car and should be treated as other people's property. Some people joy ride and mistreat the rental car, driving it in a way that they don't usually drive if it's their own vehicle - like gunning the car, rapid acceleration, etc.. If you damage the car, you will pay the bill.

Have fun renting the car and paying for gas to get anywhere these days! Be careful driving out there.

Yes, you would have to go out of your way to return the car to Enterprise at there specified mileage for an exchange, or service. If you wanted to drive from LA to SF, that would be at least 2000 miles round-trip. Any miles extra would be charged as a penalty.

I would go with Budget, Dollar, or Alamo and use my Costco or AAA discounts. Ends up cheaper that way.

Yeah, I made the mistake of renting from Enterprise just once when I went home to visit my mom in po-dunk Florida.

They wouldn't let me have the car without buying the insurance. I showed the guy that I had insurance on my truck, and he called my insurance company to confirm. He then pointed out that I was "just a college student" (I was a grad student at the time) and would not be able to pay for their econo-car if I totalled it.

I was pissed. The insurance cost more than the rental. I poured sand into the engine block, drove it at huge RPM, and took it back the next day instead of renting it for a week like I had planned.

Enterprise is the cheapest local to me, and in general has treated me well. What I like to do is schedule a car repair with pickup rental, but to get a good deal did require some negotiation with the manager (Dodge Ram 4 seat pickup for a compact car rate). They do overbook, so don't be late or too early to pick up a car. Also they will pick you up and drop you off without any fuss, and not too much delay.

BTW renting any kind of moving truck in SoCal has gotten a bit insane, with high per mile charges etc.

One single event ruined the unlimited mileage deals, a little race called One Lap of America, where several teams rented unlimited mileage cars for a week and brought them back with like 6k miles on them.

How embarassing you let some counter jockey cow you into buying insurance. Tsk Tsk.

BITE ME BUTTMUNCH!! You can take you old lady "Tsk"ing and stick it where even your mom won't let guys go!!

Is that more what you had in mind as far as not taking crap from counter jockeys, keyboard jockeys, and the likes? 😀

Felony. You can be prosecuted even to this day. I suggest you amend your story and say you were just kidding before they trace you down and prosecute.

cheapest i can get in chicago (where i live) is $27.00 for a Kia Rio. it has automatic and A/C...and tires, seat, engine, anything else needed for it to move forward and side to side.

i have this city, its a ripoff. even renting a car is a rip off. and now gas is $3.30 a gallon.

Better check that odometer. Should be more like 800 miles round-trip.

What's the cheapest I can rent an econo car, unlimited milage? I'm in Nashville. I plan to take some long trips soon and with the gas milage of my truck not so great, I figured I could save by renting. Or at least come out even, but without the wear and tear.

I will read the whole rental agreemnt next time. I want to make sure if there is any 2000-3000 miles limit on it

Don't blame you for being pissed, but how old are you, 10? Don't know how long damage from sand in the block would take to show up, but just hope it was before the car hit it's mileage limit and some poor unsuspecting sap bought it....

If not, by your logic and example, an appropriate response (if he could track you down) would be to burn your house down.

Sorry - last trip was to Reno/Tahoe and the surrounding areas.

Truck vs rental car, hard call. Traveling in a truck can suck, no locking trunk, not a lot of room inside, and maybe 20 mpg. Say 15 mpg vs 30 in a rental car, and try light driving of 300 miles a day, which is 20 gals vs 10 gals, or $60 vs $30 for just gas. OTOH if you drive 300 miles, sit around there a few days, and 300 back the per day rental is still there, with no gas savings to offset it. Also don't discount the fuss of pick up and drop off, lost time on a travel day, and the potential for snafu.

I have an enterprise rental agreement. Nowhere it say anything about miles limit. I dont know where you guys come up with 2000- 3000 miles

I have a car from them in my driveway right now. I got a brand new Nissan Maxima with only 100 miles on it, I'm the first renter. Now this is a rental car!! I was in and out in less than 8 mins, no problems. I will use them again anytime.
