HOT: Remove ads from AIM

A little OT but I like aimutation, it costs about a buck but I think it's worth it

Deadaim is probably my favorite AIM addon. Version 3.2.8 (the last free one) seems fairly lightweight and does everything I want. I keep trying to convince myself to switch to Gaim but it just doesn't feel right on Windows for some reason.

COLD!!!!

This is more likely than not a trojan or virus. All you have to do to remove ads in AIM is delete some files.... you do NOT have to replace anything to apply any 'patch'. Half of the time 'replace this .DLL afterwards' just puts a trojan on your machine... I have seen it happen.

Aha so that is where those audio movie trailers were coming from! Even with deadaim I was getting them until I did a little hosts file manipulation.

uhh... no.

calm down there, fireball.

The reason I don't use any of the third party applications like GAIM or Trillian is the fact that I use my digital signature with AIM. My company uses AIM as an enterprise communication tool and using our digital signature is a must.

the ads in aim haven't been that annoying to me...I've never encountered any video ads so far myself in aim.

However, if you care, there's an ad-free and very sleek and powerful version of aim express if you just go to aol.com and hit aol instant messenger on the main page...

I think I accidentally found it once, and it locked on the machine I was using it on(was a school machine and it might have been just an issue with that machine) but looked awesome, and then the next time I only found the older aim express which stinks and I got all confused.

But now I realize there's two versions...one which is basically the embedded instant messenging system inside of AOL 9.0(or at least looks aesthetically the same), and one which is the old school cruddy one =P

The more powerful one can do pretty much anything the IM system in AOL 9.0 can other than the superbuddy icons and similar stuff...it pretty much replaces AIM if you want to!

At any rate you should give it a shot anyway...it looks very cool

I recently switched from AIM+ to DeadAIM.

I used to use deadaim when it was free. Now its like $5. With the exception of proper display of a few fonts, gaim does everything deadaim does, and its OSS. Also, heres a thread that shows you how to disable ads in aim 5.5.x.

Seems to work well.
