Sears is not longer going to carry seperates, they will be focusing on HTs in a box and such.

They have been on clearance for several months but only knocking off a few bucks ....until this weekend when they kicked in the blowout prices.

Just a few examples:

Sony STR-DE695 600watt 6.1 HT receiver was $299 , now $136
Sony 100x2 reciever was $149, now ~$65
Sony 300 disc mega changer CDP-CX355 was $200 now $89
Sony 5 disc cd changer and burner was $279 or so , now ~$120
Panasonic 500 watt reciever was $177 or so, now $79
Panasonic 600 watt SA-XR25 slimline digital receiver, was $299 now $136
Sony 6 piece speaker package was $299 now $136

PLUS Jenson speakers for cheap , other misc gear and other speakers as well...go check your Sears!

My store was out of Yamaha's but if they had any they are 50% off too.

yup, FW has a lengthy thread on this.

picked up a panny SA-XR25 at the bannister sears (kansas city).

hooked it up, popped in a few test DVDs (the matrix, both LOTR's, etc) and was BLOWN AWAY by how much clearer my system sounds compared to my old receiver (technics w/o digital input).

for ~ $135, it was a steal!

I really hope my local Sears has the Sony 2 channel in stock. My computer really needs a better source than the Radio Shack POS I've been using for years.

That brings me back. I lived about 1/2 mile from the Bannister Mall when it was being built in the early '80s. I couldn't believe how fast that thing went up. And the Fun Factory...awesome. Biggest arcade anyone had ever seen around there, though the odd-shaped tokens were a pain when you had to feed a machine before a countdown ran out.

Dammit. When I was in Albany back in 98 and The Wiz was going out of biz, I spent about $20,000. Sold it all on ebay. Now I'm a stinkin' lawyer and can't have the fun I used to ... bastards.

I'm envious... I called about 12 stores looking for that with no luck.

Picked up the last JVC 6.1 Digital Receiver for $145 out the door still in box. I really wanted the Sony instead but they had 1 left and it was the display model. They had a Yamaha still in box but at $180 it was a bit too high for me.

The amount of settings and configurations on this receiver is mind-blogging. gotta go through the manual a few more times to get a hang of it's full potential. all i need now are better 5.1 speakers.

You should have borrowed the money or something because Yamaha is in a completely different leauge than JVC as far as HT receivers go.

I have to say I am really impressed by the Panasonic SA-DX25 I picked up last week. Even my wife who isn't really up to speed on audio equipment commented that it was a lot better sounding than the Kenwood VR-707 I had bought through eCost a few weeks ago (and that will be going on eBay later this week!)

I also picked up a Sony 300 cd changer to replace my aging 50 cd changer. $89 for it, $130 for the Panny, both were sweet deals, and it seemed like the sales people were holding their breath hoping no one would buy the last ones. Hope I didn't burst their bubble too badly.

Wish the widescreen LCD TVs were on that kind of clearance!

that's funny - all three of the sears' associates i talked to didn't seem to care, nor did they seem to know a damn thing about HT in general.

i had more trouble arguing with the CS manager trying to get them to honor my printed $10 off coupon. the kicker was when i pointed out the 'Please print this coupon out and take it to your local Sears' text that was written in bold text right across the top.

sheesh.

i think i'm gonna try to pick up another Panny...can't beat it for that price!

went to sears today

saw a panny that was 100x5
saw a sony, but didnt even look at it cause i HATE sony

there was the YAMAHA!!!
asked to double check price since tag said 390 something

guess what guys, 179 and change....

Yamaha HTR-5650

http://ww2.onecall.com/PID_19442.htm

those are the specs. I'm pretty sure the thing about it having only 3 optical output is wrong, but i will double check with the manual.

i bought the floor piece at one sears, then sped off to the next closest one, and they had ONE new piece left, so i bought that too.

Unless i can find someone that wants the floor piece i bought, its gonna be returned. Good thing about the floor piece, is that it wa son display, but not plugged in. Just sitting there. If anyone wants it, you can PM me. Only thing is no box, and no FM antenna.

Well, hope someone else can get in on this deal.

Puv
=)

I picked up both a Yamaha 5660 and a Panny SA-XR25. I need a receiver for my bedroom. The Panny sounded amazing, it's comparable to my Harman Kardon 525. I tested all 3 receivers: Yamaha, Panasonic, and Harman Kardon side by side using the same material in 5.1 Movie and 2 channels stereo. The HK top the test follow by Panny then the Yammy. Needless to say the Yamaha is going back tomorrow. The test was based on my personal preference so take for what's worth. If you can find the Panasonic SA-SR25 for $135 don't pass it up. You're not going to find a better sounding receiver at that price.

They didn't have any panny xr25s left, but they did have the floor model Yamaha, that looked like it had recently been opened. (i.e., no greasy fingerprints/loose control knobs).

The haul:

Yamaha 5650 + 2 year warranty
Cerwin Vega 5M bookshelf speakers (I'm building up my system piece by piece)
Sony SA-WM 500 12" 140W subwoofer (I know it's a sony, but for ~$85, I think it's a really good deal.

for just under $300, including tax! (Look for a $30 off 250 coupon)..

I may go back soon for the center channel (Cerwin Vegas 5C... any thoughts on this?)

Comments appreciated-- I don't know very much about home theater, so feedback would be great.

Thanks,
SKC

Raleigh-Durham:

I got the last new in box Panasonic SA-XR25 in the area last night. As of yesterday, here are the receivers that were left (didn't ask about other equipment):

Crabtree: JVC RX-7030 $135,
Panasonic SA-HE75S $89.98

Cary Towne Ctr: Panasonic SA-HE75S $89.98,
Kenwood VR-705S $76.48,
Sony STRDE185 $67.48

Northgate Durham: Yamaha HTR-5650 $179.98,
JVC RX-7030 $135
Panasonic SA-XR25 $135. (Open box return. The sales guy said 'an associate' was interested in this so its probably gone).

Most of these are display models so they may not have boxes or accessories, but price will be 10% less. Don't forget the $10 off $100 coupon on electronics at Sears (FW) for even more savings.

Wow - nice deal - went to the Independence mall near KC and they not only had a brand new Panasonic SA-XR25 ($135), but they still have the floor model left which they'll take another 10% off of, if there's anyone interested, now i just need to find a 6.1 speaker system to match it

Thanks again!

FYI guys,
the Sears in Oakbrook Mall (Chicago area) still had a few open box Yamaha's, Sony's, JVCs and new-in-box JVCs left last night - apparently they just marked everything down further last night (I got the lower prices).

I called around looking for a new-in-box Panasonic SA-XR25 at some of the other Sears stores, but they don't have any. Some of the local stores still have the JVCs and the Panasonic HE75s - the HE75s are $87...

Anyone see any subs left? It's the last real piece of equipment I need to complete my HT setup.
