I picked up this drive on Saturday at my Sam's (Richmond, VA). Thought it was a local, one-time only deal though. I walked in just looking around and this was the last drive of its kind on the shelf.

true story... last october, i look online and see the 12x for $50 or something. go into store next day... where are the drives? there's not even a display box. so i ask employees, they are no help (we need a sku man!) so i resign myself to going back home to write down sku. drown my sorrows in the $2.25 pizza drink combo, and walk around a bit to let it settle. see 64mb sm for $28.91--woot! trip might not be a waste after all. go to counter to buy sku and i realize that the display boxes are in the case also. ask clerk "hey do you sell a twelve speed cdrw?" she checks the boxes and i'm like "yes! that's the one!" goes over to the sytem and looks it up... says we are showing TEN in the system... let me go back and see if i can find any... she is gone a LONG TIME (at least 15--feels like 30) tell her before she leaves--if you find any--i'd like three at least...
comes back with three. i buy three with separate receipts and beat feet

Are all speeds of Pacific Digital drives rebadged Lite On? Circuit City carries thes drives. Most of the CC drives have at least $40 dollar rebates, the 8x can be had for 39.00 after MIR.

chrisjor - No, not all are Lite-on. I purchased a 16x at Staples the day after Thanksgiving and it was a Cyberdrive.

Went to my Sam's in Sunrise, Florida and I didn't see ANY CD Burners. Never have seen any in this store. Where in the store do they have them?
My sams actually has 13 of them, but they are still 99 dollars. Any ideas on a possible price match or policy with Sams club? I would really like this sucker

Zone CLV. The data read/write rate keeps constant within a zone at the inner track then increases to higher constant rate at outer track as another zone. For example at 24X(Z-CLV) writing speed, the drive starts burning inner from 16X(CLV), switch to 20X(CLV) at 6min and switches to 24X(CLV) at 16min, this is so called Zone-CLV, 3 zone total.

I told the manager that my friend in Chicago (I live in Champaign, IL) had told me about the $56 price in one of the sam's clubs there, she spent about 10 min looking at a computer screen (checking other stores' inventory/prices?) to see if I was lieing to her, then gave me the drive for $56.91

)Got one here at Cincinnati Sam's. Had to pay 74.91. I spoke with store manager about a "friend" in New Jersey who emailed me about these being 56.91. He checked around in computer awhile, then told me sorry, 74.91 was price and there were none to be had locally. I suppose if they did not sell real fast in other regions they were able to drop price to 56.91 to move them. They were able to sell them all for 74.91 around here, so they most likely would never drop to 56.91.
I will wait until Circuit City gets more of these in stock, then I will take this drive and receipt to store and try to get them to price match and use rebates. They won't, but I will try. Yes you can get a one day pass at Sam's. Go into the store to the Customer Service desk and ask. My store always has the coupons sitting on the CS counter. They have two parts to the coupon, one half is a one day pass, the other is good for a $10 gift card when you get an advantage membership. Also one day passes are in the sunday paper every month or so.

i have the 24102b.......i bought it from newegg for $80.......wish i could have got in on this deal cause it is a great burner...had reservations about the switch lite-on made from burn-proof to smartburn but havent had a single prob or complaint yet!!! great find...

Does this have Nero in the box?
And I heard the 24x is supposed to be pretty good, is the 12x Iomega rebadge Liteon good too?
Almost forgot, what would the non-member price for this be or does it matter on clearance items?
I also have a free "pass" from Walmart I never used 3 years ago that had no expiration date. Would that make a difference?
