Hot Prices on Phoenix Gold Car Stereo Stuff

Yeah, Phoenix Gold is great stuff. I though i remember reading that they are on some hard times in the Portland Business journal recently.

How does PG stack up against, say, Infinity? Are their $50 speakers comparable to a reference series speaker?

phoenix gold has fallen way down in the car audio market. those prices really aren't that great, they're only a little below street value, no one would pay those retail prices unless they were shopping at best buy (undoubtedly the worst place to buy car stereo equipment).

their old xenon components and amps were nice. the newer components, probably not so much, but i'd take them over the pairs of brain-bleeders that infinity sells.

stay away from the non-radial (no 'rsd' in the number) amps, they're cheaper and don't even list real power output.

Yea, I don't know of PG having the prestige they used to. Some of their stuff from 10-12 years ago was pretty hardcore, but if you go over to caraudio.com forums you'll find that apparently much of the market has caught up to them and PG is nothing special anymore. NOT saying its bad, just dont freak out like OMG PG for cheap. It's probably cheap stuff.

For speakers, look at Hertz. (Electromedia aka Audison) or look around woofersetc.com

PG is a shell of it's former self. They used to be at the higher end of the Car Audio world, but they just don't have the quality stuff they used to have.

Back in 1994/1995 I had a Team Phoenix Gold competition amp that was top of the line. It was like the Orion HCCA series amps in the fact that it was rated for 250x2 but bridge mono i pushed 2500 watts at 1 ohm. I had 4 solo baric 12s in the back of a Mustang GT at the time. The funny thing is I don't listen to much rap at all, but it'd be great to go cruising and slam Vulgar Display of Power and have all the kids look at us like we were crazy 😀

Hertz is decent stuff from what I've heard. I ended up putting Diamond Audio in my wifes new car and I'm VERY pleased with their 6.5 comps. They are HEX series and sound wonderful.

diamond audio is good stuff.

i have dls comps, an image dynamics sub, and cadences amps. it's all very reasonably priced stuff, there are great deals in car audio is you know what you're looking for (and don't mind throwing the warranty out the window by buying unauthorized).

orion is owned by directed now. it's solid stuff but not the same as it used to be. didn't orion have some kind of crazy competition amp rated at like 1w back in the day? it could run at a crazy low impedance.

Yes, Phoenix isn't the brand they used to be. However the stuff works. It plays music and it's on a budget. Plus FREE shipping if you are a Prem Amazon person. Thats a great deal with no tax too.

Sorry but in my book. Still a Hot deal.

As I stated in my OP post. Not the best stuff....... but for the price.......

BTW I have a V754 4 channel amp and 6.5" component set of speakers coming.

I am installing the above in my sons 1994 Mazda 323.

I can compare them with my system in my 2000 Mazda 626 that has a RF Punch 4 channel amp and Polk component speakers. RF Punch subs.

I will post my findings later.

The RSD stuff is probably good. I have an older Xenon x400.1 powering an Alpine Type R in my mazda 3, been working great for 3 years.

Yeah, it was the Orion HCCA series. It was rated at 25x2 @ 4 ohms, but it was stable down to .25 ohms and output 225watts. It's what I ran my highs/mids with and then had the PG for the Solo Barics. My highs were MB Quarts. Those were the days! lol
