Hi All,

This might be potentially hot if no one has already posted it. I apologize if someone has. See news article below
for all the details. It looks like Sept 1, INTEL has plans to do a possible 50% price drop on P4's so hold off
building your PC 🙂

News Article

They are planning to lower their average selling price of the 2.53 ghz p4 of $600 retail to about 330-360ish.
That is almost a 50% price drop!!!!!!
Unfortunately, I'm only in the market for a 1.6a and the prices have been going up:|

It's hard waiting for price drops, they always go down, but just in case you're wondering, a friend of mine works for Intel and has heard rumors of a 3.0 GHz P4 release at Christmas. :Q

3 1/2 weeks...hmm...wonder if intel has that timed with concluding the VIA litigations. Wouldn't surprise me since they jumped up 7 weeks for price cuts. I'm getting ansy for an ABIT/SIS/Serial HD/USB2/CORSAIR XMS DDR400/P4 2000a....which will all be obsolete by the time i research well enough to buy.

uh the 3.06 ghz p4 release was announced in the news 2 weeks ago.

Even more on some chips. From the linked article...

"Jonathan Joseph, of Salomon Smith Barney Inc., in San Francisco, said the giant chipmaker will slash prices on its Pentium 4 processors up to 67 percent in conjunction with the release of its 2.8GHz chip Aug. 25 and in a second round of cuts Sept. 1.

With the introduction of the new chip, Intel will slash the price on its current fastest processor, a 2.53GHz Pentium 4, from $637 to $236, a 67 percent reduction. Intel will also lower prices on its slower running Pentium 4s, although the cuts will be far more modest. For example, a 1.8GHz version will be priced down from $163 to $143, a 13 percent cut. "
