I heard this from a Sony rep about 3-4 years ago, so I don't know if it still holds true. All Sony cordless phones except the top end models are made by Uniden.

I wonder how many of you who are experiencing bad reception on these phones.... ALSO has DSL.

Have you used the in-line noise cancellation adaptors you got with your DSL kit? Perhaps these being 2.4GZ... they are picking up/creating much more noise and need the adaptors.

Anyone want to do this for us .... and tell us if it helped?
Thanks :)

well i tried it out... reception is just Okayish...... it's a little bit better than a 900 mhz panasonic i was using anyways. There's a little bit of background noise from time to time, but I can hear the other party pretty clearly.
On the brighter side, it does have quite alot of features and settings that I wasnt expecting. Not that i'll probably use them, but it's nice to know they're there i suppose.

One thing which may be interesting for those planning to get wireless networking. I was told that these 2.4 Ghz phones simply mess up the wireless. Our college is just setting up a wireless network all over campus and the people in charge were planning to ban 2.4 ghz cordless phones as such, in places where the wireless network exists.

A "quality" 2.4 ghz phone will not interfere with a 802.11b network.......they are on seperate frequencies...both in the 2.4ghz range. It's much easier to say "2.4ghz phone", instead of "2.41345-2.41203ghz phone".

Far as complaints about battery charge capacity...... any and ALL Nickel based batteries need to be conditioned when new, and cycled every month or so. This includes Ni-Cad and Ni-MH batteries. Use google and search, lots of great info out there. Yes some phones just such da juice, but others need just a little work. Case in point, my Panasonic phone after the initial 15hr charge, only lasted 1 hour on intercom mode. After power cycling it a few times, I now get about 4.5 hours. (I use intercom mode so not to tie up the phone line).

My $.02

Oh, BTW, I wouldn't buy this phone. I took a look at it during lunch....yuck. big, bulky, cheap feeling by today's standards. But good for a garage phone I guess....spray paint it orange so it's easy to find. heheh

Hmm, garsh, we have had this phone for over two years, and still works like a charm. WONDERFUL reception, and have never had problems with hearing anyone on it. Wouldn't have had to buy this one if we hadn't left the first one out in the rain.

All I know is, I'm not the only one who has had this problem with their Sony cordless.

Maybe the newer ones are better.

Ok, I bought the last PhoneMate at my local staples, and so far I'm pretty impressed with it.
I have the base on my nightstand upstairs in the bedroom, and reception has been fine
even on the first floor at the opposite end of the house.

I originally thought the volume was a little low, but then I realized the volume had been set to "low". ;)

If it keeps working this well, it may replace our 900MHz Uniden as the main phone.
I wonder if I can get anything on Fleabay for a 5-YO 900MHz Sony?

Staples has lost our $10 rebates and has no such promotion number in the computer. You might want to call them as soon as you can to get the $10 rebate.

I got the $20 in the mail today.

Anyone else having a problem scrolling through the caller IDs? When I hit the CID button, then scroll through the numbers that called, all I get is just the first number in the list - it doesn't change. I can see the number increment down near the bottom, but the phone number does not change. I got 2 of these and both do it. Anyone else notice this?
