5.8GHz FHSS...

eww, nasty. :(

900 MHz = better penetration, better distance, less interference to other devices

Really.. I thought the higher the frequency, the better??? So it is actually best to get a 900MHz phone right now? I need to get a new cordless phone because the cordless I have now is super duper crappy.. It has pathetic range and massive interference. It is actually a Panasonic 2.4Ghz gigarange with digital answering system. I will never buy another panasonic phone again. My downstairs neighbors say they could sometime hear our conversations, so I try not to use it anymore.

Last time I checked a 5.8GHz phone is better than a 900MHz phone. Where do you get your info from?

I though so, too. But we eventually plug back our old 900 mhz phones, 2.4G and 5.8G all had fair amount of trouble, go figure. By the way, all oure phones are uniden and panasonic.

Well P0lar is right. 900 Mhz will travel better through walls and around the house generally. It'll be reflected by fewer things around the house. So, why did phones move from 900 Mhz to 2.4Ghz? Well, 900 Mhz phones started having interference issues with all of the other 900 Mhz phones, etc, that were using the band. 802.11b/g hadn't taken off, so 2.4GHz phones were remarkably quiet compared to 900 MHz; besides, manufacturers took the opportunity to move from analog technology to digital.

Now, 2.4 GHz is at least as crowded (and, in my house, far worse) than 900 Mhz was for people. So, I bought this exact phone a couple months ago. The 5.8 GHz band is currently used for much, so reception is marvelous. Once everything moves up there, the same problems will occur.

I bought a KX-TG5050. It's 5.8ghz and it's great! No interface, no noise, as clear as talking in person, and I haven't even activated their 2 features (voice enhance and booze).

I have one of these. 5.8 is a must if you use Packet8 or Vonage with a wireless router.

I've got this phone and can't complain.
If you live in a normal house 2.4ghz and 900mhz are fine, but i've picked up other people's calls on my old 2.4ghz phone in the dorms.

The 900MHz DSS phones are by far the best. Good luck in finding these, as the manufacturers have jumped on the 5.8 Gig bandwagon. I wish that the 900 MHz DSS phones were still at the top of the heap as far as availability and features. :(
