That's not at all a stupid question. Yes you can use WiFi with your desktop using a USB client the best one is the Orinoco Gold USB adapter which can be had for around $80 on eBay.

You're going to need a WAP (Wireless Access Point) and either a PCMCIA card (for laptops) or a USB adapter (desktop).

No you do not have to have the Dell 1150 card AND the USB adapter unless you want to hookup both a laptop AND desktop.

What do you own? Desktop, laptop or BOTH?

I have personal PC, and an office lappy (Though my keyboard has become non- function with my drool for the recent HP laptop deals under $1000 ! )

So does it mean that 1150 is just for laptops ?

And can I utilise the stray signals flying around from other people's WAPs ? I guess if you could point me to some discussion board for Wi-Fi that would be better than me asking you gazillions of questions !

I got orinoco antenna from hdcom.com. More expensive than egay, but everything works great. Arielix does look cheap, but the cheap stuff are used.

I can't seem to get the hack to work.. Any tips? I was able to load the dell drivers and dell client software.. but I can't detect the card under orinoco's drive nor using the Orinoco's hack found on this thread.
