Hot or Not: $9 Ubid's Travel packages

Optical

Senior member
It looks like Ubid always have these travel packages (airfare, vacations, cruises, etc.) with outrageous low bids that should cost $800 or more, is this for real? Has anyone actually gone to one of Ubid vacations?

For example, right now they have one cruise package coming out of Texas for $30!

eLeisurelink.com presents:

Carnival Cruise Lines 5 Night / 6 Day Western Caribbean Cruise aboard the Celebration
Sails round-trip from Galveston, TX

Included with your bid price:

-All meals & snacks aboard the ship
-24-hour room service
-Access and use of shipboard facilities.
-Inside Cabin with Upper/Lower bedding
(Discounted upgrades to 2 Lower Beds & Ocean view cabins are available)

-Your choice of 7 sailing date(s): 04/08/02, 04/22/02, 08/03/02, 08/12/02, 08/17/02, 08/26/02, 08/31/02 based on availability.

(Some dates may require a slight surcharge ? see surcharge information below)

from what i understand, auctions arent allowed in the hot deals forum.. might want to remove the post..

<< No dealers and no SPAM (IE: muli-level marketing, pay-to-surf, pay-for-referral schemes or links to auctions) allowed! >>

🙂

Obviously, I'm not the owner of Ubid therefore it's not a spam/multilevel/etc. If I were to post my ebay link then that would be questionable. This is a possible legit deal... People need to relax here.

Does anybody get any hot deals from Ubid? I haven't visited there in forever, but last time I was there, stuff was ending up more than retail value...what's the point of that?

but hey, if you can get a vacation package on the cheap, then i'd say that's a hot deal....but it's still an auction.

okay, well that description isnt totally accurate from the forums main page.. but people have posted deals from ubid before and have been locked by the moderators no matter how hot the deal is because it was an auction. just trying to point that out.

Correct...should be posted in OffTopic forum...

unless this deal PERSONALLY offends you somehow, why are you so antsy about getting it locked? what do you care?

so many people around here just live to play hall monitor.

meanwhile, back to the deal: these things almost always have huge catches, like they give you the cruise for free (or cheap) but you have to buy the airfare from them. I'd be apprehensive about this, only because ubid has a somewhat shaky reputation anyways.

Don't think you're going to see it for $9...

A group of friends and I got together a few months ago and did the Carnival Inspiration to the Western Carribean (8day - 7 nights) We had like 20 of us, and we got deals/upgrades because of it. Our price was $550 per person (or $1100 per cabin). We had a blast. Also something to figure on: $100-150 per person PER DAY spending money. Yes meals are included. Drinks (except Tea) are NOT. If you're a heavy Coke drinker get the a Funship drink pass - $~30 good for unlimited drinks - 1 at a time - in a glass. The food is excellent... One night 3 of us couldn't decide between 2 of the entrees... They brought us both.

The rule of thumb for these tours: Twice as much money, half the clothes.

If you get the chance, do it...

Speaking of uBid, did anyone see or get a chance to bid in their auctions for the NEC 42" LCD panels this weekend? Both auctions maxed out before I could bid. There were two auctions that were FUBARed and had the wrong max bid price of $899. Here is one of them. I am not going to link becase of the rules but take a look!

We got lucky on a similar deal through uBid last year and purchased 15 new Dell 19" short neck monitors for $9 each after their auction system messed up and no one else could bid. Shipping was $40 on each, but still an awesome deal.

I Find it Amusing , how you all think the auction sites suck , yet a LOT of you sell your stuff there.

Yea , IF there is a RESERVE price , it SUCKS.....
BUT that is NOT a TRUE auction , Just a sale., or a come on.

AND, YOU MUST READ THE FINE PRINT.. S+H can kill a deal.

I've bought and sold at some of the sites for over 6 years now and haven't beened burned yet.
WHY ?????
I grew up going to Horse auctions , and such , which used to be common here in PA years ago .
And was taught , NOT TO TAKE IT PERSONALLY.....
Same holds true at an AUTO auction ,of which I've attended MANY.

I've had to laugh MANY a time , at an auto auction when two FOOLS , run up the price on a car , just because someone else out-bid them , and they Think their ManHood is threatened , if they don't win.
Danged , that's every SELLERS dream .........

AS to Ubid, I've got no complaints.
I've had my GF2 GTS card now for about 8 months , cost ???
$48.00 shipped after rebate.
WHY ??????
Cause I bid on MANY auctions for the card , BUT ALWAYS AT THE PRICE I WAS WILLING TO PAY!!!!!!!!
Never any more , Just because I was going to Lose the auction.
Just MY PRICE.
So as the Old Addage says . let the buyer beware , and Keep your money in youre pocket , till you GET YOUR PRICE.

and thanks for the Heads up , I just might check out one of those Vacations...

sometimes yes....u can have good deals ....esp. if u can get hold of coupons which they take out sometimes😀

I'm not a big fan of ubid, but I did get a chaintech 7sid sis735 mobo for 47 shipped about six months ago. It's hit or miss. Actually, mostly miss, but every once in a blue moon.......

Look carefully at those cruises before bidding. I was just looking at one with two bids on it. There is a reserve on the auction, and a $100 bid has not met the reserve, sailing dates are "based on availability", "packages are priced individually (per person); two people must travel together and, accordingly, you must bid in increments of two.", AND there is, from the best I can tell a $275 "seasonal" SURCHARGE AND PORT FEE PER PERSON NOT INCLUDED IN THE BID PRICE.

SO, if you want to go with somoene, you are left with $550 in surcharges and fees, PLUS whatever you have to bid to win the cruise (and $200 for both persons does not meet the reserve). So, you are up to $750 + whatever it takes to beat the reserve, AND you don't have a locked in cruise date, which is "subject to availability".

Nack
