Hot Nikox Coolpix 4500 Digital Camera $478.95

Just bought a Nikon Coolpix 4500 Digital Camera from OfficeMax.com for $699.98 but with a 115% pricmatch so actual cost is $478.95.

Match is with www.Bilibi.com who has it listed at $459.00 (difference is shipping cost).

Been wanting to get one for a long time and tried several online camera dealers but they were always out of stock, had to buy "add ons" at inflated prices or had gray market" cameras at their advertised price.

is it best to PM via phone, or via online forms?

anyone know if Staples will pricematch to internet stores like this one?

Staples will PM an online retailer but they are PICKY !!! I am waiting to hear back on A PM for the CP 5700 at $755.

OfficeMax has already approved the deal at $755 (yahoo store) but they do not give 15% of the difference. This is only for other office stores such as Staples and Quils. I verified this with OM just a few minutes ago. Coupons however would be applied after the PM and there is a $50 off $200 floating around.

I did an instore PM at Staples, the Manager was not very happy to see the difference in price. The CP 5700 is $1240 at Staples, $41 over MSRP. I've got 5 places selling the same camera for $749 - $769. Waiting to hear back from the Manager as he had to approve it via Corporate (go figure). They too have a $50 coupon and honor the %10 of the difference. We're talking $50 alone in the PM percentage back, stack that with $50 off (coupon) and you're talking a great deal.

Anyone else PM Staples or OM?

I tried to pricematch a G3 to staples, and got the 'ole "cannot match, is not authorized store"

OM doesn't seem to carry the Canon products I am interested in.

Guys, not sure about violet, but remember that many of the online stores selling camera equipemtn will try to sell you a non-usa warranted unit, bait-and-switch you, suddenly have stock problems if you dont buy alot of overpriced accessories, or a combination of these. There are MANY posts on these issues.
Good Luck, and beware of many camera retailers whose prices that are too good to be true. Do your homework before buying!

Just did a pricematch on the Nikon 4500 at Staples. Pricematched to www.compuplus.com @ $555 plush $24 (or so) shipping plus Staples adds tax. Applied a $50 Staples coupon and a $10 Staples/Amex coupon. Nikon has a $50 MIR on this camera (which by nature a US version camera purchased from Staples qualifies for). Total price with tax, but after $50 rebate will be $490.

I could have purchased it more cheaply (perhaps) online from a Brooklyn NY based seller, but these guys generally have a terrible reputation - missing UPC codes from boxes (no rebate), missing warranty, stripped parts sold for extra, non-US models, etc.

For the price I paid, I'm not going to lose any sleep over something going wrong plus the Amex doubles my warranty.

BTW, the pricematch was inititally denied after 'being sent to corporate'. Icomplained that their PM policy (they match to compuplus) doesn't provide them with any ability to say "No". The price was then severely miscalculated when corporate did a 'match' (after attempting to include the MIR as a "Staples"-only rebate and adding it to the pricematch, they were higher before tax and shipping than compuplus), then was finally (after a total of two weeks worth of phone calls - start to finish) OK'd at a correct price and coupons applied.

Staples carries the part with the Ingram Micro stock number: IM1-686-728

Again, I'm happy with the price - it's now in the ball park of reasonable v. Staples initial price of $50 over retail - and I know that Staples will back and support the sale much better than a 'no name' website that doesn't even have a physical storefront.

Additionally, anyone who buys this camera (or any other digital) make sure to buy an inexpensive UV filter. These screw on over the built in lens. They don't really provide any change in the picture, but when the lens gets scratched (and it will!) you need only buy another $20 filter instead of several hundred dollars in repairs (scratches aren't a warranty item).

Got it last week from mpsuperstore for 499.00 (although I also kept $85 holiday cash, by doing an exchange). They are a Nikon authorized seller, and everything arrived ok.

Beware of online camera stores based in Manhattan or Brooklyn !.. they are all crooks ..
Read that article on zdnet .. I don't have the link but it is interesting !

Let's not make hasty and invalid generalizations here. "SOME" NYC based dealers are crooks and deal with shady business practices, but certainly not all. Stores like B&H (the premier photo shop in the US), as well as Adorama, and 17th street photo are legit businesses that are authorized and are Manhatten based businesses that also have web-based sales.

My camera came in the other day and yesterday I received a $25.00 coupon in the mail for any purchase over $125.00. Called OfficeMax?s customer service and they applied a credit to my account so the price came down to $453.95.

Camera is everything I expected and more.

i recently purchased the cp 4500 on ebay and got under 500 for it, to echo what others have said. make sure go for a reseller that has positive ratings on resellerratings. a lot of the online camera shops practice hard sell tactics as was said before. notice how cheap the camera is and how overpriced the accesories are. my guess is that when someone calls the violet place they are going to hit a ton of roakblocks unless they purchase a ton of accesories. when a price is that low, it's probably a scam of some sort. it is probably just too good to be true. the pm deal is much better and far less hassle even after all the pricematching that will go on. go on pricegrabber.com and view the list of online retailers. many have the same camera for 500 or less which is a steal, and also have high ratings on resellerratings. good luck

I was having some fun requesting pricematches from Officemax on this camera and got a shock when the price at Electric Violet came back at $900!!.

Looking through their Nikon prices it seems they've jacked them up... so much for a pricematch there 🙂

Buy the Coolpix 4500 at www.eclubphoto.com for $478.49. Send in $200 rebate. Total AR: $278.49, shipped free.

Mine is in the mail 🙂 And yes, that $478 is BEFORE rebate, not AFTER as some shady companies are pulling. And the guy checked the UPC and it said E4500(U) so it's eligible for the rebate.

Cheers

Your link isn't working for me.

Ugh.. they just hit me with some bullsh_t that I have to pay $100 extra for the version that is eligible for the rebate (it must have E4500(U) on the UPC). I argued with him a bit and told him that fact wasn't made known to me. He lowered the extra "fee" to $44. So, $478 went up to $522 - MIR$200 = $322.. still not a bad deal, it beats Dell's and OfficeMax's.
