You did not get the deal if you did not get a reply that said that the order had been "ACCEPTED" and that they'd send you and e-mail to the effect. I know, I went through this about five times trying to place an order yesterday (Didn't help that my CC company put a security hold on two attempts waiting to verify the activity with me--JEEEZ). Anyway, you can call a CSR and find out but they seem to be somewhat ignorant other than to tell you that you haven't placed an order and to keep trying using NSN. They claim a link problem.

I was able to successfully order the Coolpix 950 about 2:00PM EST. Got a confirmation e-mail already. I checked the status and it shows the item as backordered. Has anyone talked to them to get an ETA when they will be able to fill the orders????

To those asking about what size CF to use... The 950 can take TEN different size of pictures (3 resolutions, 3 compression modes, plus uncompressed). So you have complete control over quality vs. storage size!

Also: note to those who get one. Make sure you check the firmware, who knows how old these cameras are. The latest firmware is 1.3. This web site tells you how to check and more: Nikon 950 User Guide

Also, be prepared for redeye right away! The flash on most handheld cameras is too close to the lense and this is the cause of "redeye". The Nikon digitals are pretty bad with this. The solution: don't use flash (external light) or build yourself a flash bracket to get the damn thing further away from the lense. Nikon 950/990 External Flash FAQ -- here is an example Cool flash bracket for Nikon 990 with photos - note that the 990 has a better tripod mount, but the previous external flash FAQ should cover that.

P.S. I am still pissed that PhotoAlley changed order status on Wednesday from "pending" to "back order" and hasn't notified me nor answered emails I sent on both Tuesday and Wednesday (morning). I sure hope they don't screw a bunch of people when Christmas comes by saying "in stock" when they take your order and then _3 days later_ still not sending it and changing your order to "back order".

Don't feel bad. I went through what you did on Saturday afternoon before you bought yours and I getting the same treatment even with a two-delivery request that I paid $10 additional for.

I even called customer service on Wednesday morning and was told that it was going to ship that day and that she (CSR) would send an e-mail down to shipping to remind them. Then when I got home that evening I see "Backordered" on my status. I already had my old digital camera on fleabay with a "reserve met" bid.

I hope they used some mega-distributor that will ship soon. I guess we might have the latest firmware though.

what do you guys really think of this deal? i ordered one too only to have it "back ordered." do you think photoalley will pull through? their rating at bizrate was 9 of 10 by over 2500 customers. i called and talked to them and they said that the 530 is what i will be billed (100 off and 20% passport). im going to be steaming pissed if they dont deliver because that means i could have gone with mercata and gotten it definately where as these guys didnt update their page to reflect being out. on mercata if it's sold out it's gone from the page. the mercata deal is pulled tomorrow so im screwed if this camera doesnt come in. i got 2nd day shipping also and im going to see if i can get that taken off, ie: was expecting it wednesday and they didnt even send me an email saying it was backordered.

I posted in the newsgroups (rec.photo.digital) and people said that they have a pretty good record (several customers defended them).

But I agree with your point about saying "in stuck" and misdirecting people away from Mercata... and here it is Thursday and they still haven't notified of the backorder! I really doubt they are going to do it Friday when they get back from being gone on Thursday (to say they are even going to be open on Friday). Sucks that they said "in stock" and gave a email confirmation and all.

Sucks though, I was about to order the Lexar Flash cards from Computers4sure. Now I'm kinda holding back until I get the camera. I sure do hope this deal pulls through!

Let me add my .02 since i OWN this camera...and I am a photographer.

1. you need a usb card reader. It has only a serial connection and that is way to slow. Dont be a cheap ass all your life and buy a 30.00 card reader

2. the picture quality on this camera is amazing..for those who call it bulky, bullcrap, its small and its nice.

3. This is not a easy point and shoot camera...if you dont know much about photography you can use it, but it can be complicated..so you need to read up on it.

4. it eats batteries like crazy...my sugguestion you need absolutely need to get 2 things, 1. an adapter..the nikon ones are pricey, but one on *bay for 30.00 made by digipower. You need at least 12-16 nimh batteries...I sugguest the sanyo 1600mah batteries, about 2.00 each and the maya mh-204f charger...the charger is about 25.00 on freebay

5. You also need a case, and bigger flash cards, personally i have 2 96 meg cards that i use.

6. All told, after batteries, case, charger, adapter, usb reader, and flash cards, plan on spending 150.00-300.00 extra. You can get away with less...but you really need all these things.

7. Even with that added in..its a great camera, great picture quality great company. I got my rebate fast, 4 weeks..i paid 700.00 for this with a 100.00 rebate back in july.
