Based on the reviews so far, I don't really see what the market for these cards is. The 9500pro and ti4600 whip both of these cards and can be found for about the same price. They seem alot like the g4 mx line to me (hell, they are about dead even with the ti4200 which I got for $99 over 18 months ago). Besides directx 9, what can these cards do that's impressive?

This is not a crap, I just can't figure out why ATI and Nvidia made these cards. I figured the 9600 would fill the gap between the 9500pro and the 9700 and the 5600 would fill the gap between the 4600 and 5800...after all, thats what the numbers should indicate. Anyhow, I have to say that Nvidia has a huge performance void right now that needs to be filled (some of us can't afford $400 video cards) :(

Don't be alarmed they just increased the quantity factor in the quantity vs. quality department.

I'm broke anyway...my last $80 went here.

Yeah, but you'll get it all back and then some to either spend wisely or waste on a 256MB video card. :D

Most people would agree that the 9500P is superior to the 9600P. But I think the term, whip, is somewhat of an exaggeration. You say the ti4200 is about "dead even" with it .... How about trying it with AA and AF?

ATi made this card to be more profitable than the 9500Pro while still being competitive. Many articles stated that it would intro at $169 to $199. Once these get to around $150, they would be a "hot deal" to me.

In addition, the 9600 looks like it overclocks to the moon! (thx to the .13 process and having 1/2 the transistors of the 9500)

Yeah, you're dead right about AA and AF, but I just don't see these vid cards appealing to many people. Consider that you can get a 9700 non pro from newegg for $229, a ti4600 for $189, and a 9500pro for $175. Can you honestly tell me that the price of these cards isn't out of whack? As you said, if these suckers don't fall below $150 pretty fast, I don't see any reason to get one.

And the 5600 speaks for itself. I can find no reason whatsoever to buy that card...nvidia had better get on the ball pretty quick here.

I don't think it is a bad price on the 9600PRO, since it is Retail ATI, the Retail 9500 pro's are $200-220. 3rd party 9600's should be out in the next 2 weeks, and should be cheaper. I'm sure the 256mb 5600 will be successful with the general public since most people look at the amount of memory on a card, and would rather buy a 128mb Mx over a 64mb 4200.

ive been looking at the 9600 for a little while now as my gf3 is showing a bit of age. From what ive seen, the 9500P is the better of the cards, but finding them around anymore is rare. Price watch dosnt list them anymore. Obviously they are no longer being made.

Now, compared to the fx5200, this card fares much better, but not nearly as much as the fx5800 (is that it?). It trails ever so slightly behind the geforce 4, HOWEVER, because of its better dx9 support, the 9600 will be a much better card for future games. the Geforce 4 cant even run nature in 3dmark 2003.

that said, I find $189 pretty high for a card that was created from the ground up to be a cheaper to make version of the 9500 which sold for the same price.

OK where's a web site that lists all the video cards in order of performance??

GeForce 3 Ti beats GeForce 4 MX, now they have some nVidia 5000 series performing worse than GeForce 4. WTF!
You sure can't tell by the way they name these cards which one is better than which. nvBas-tards.

I think I saw a web site that lists them all in order so you can tell quickly which one beats which...

Bah...

All right! Thanks OC Noob: http://oc3dmark.octeams.com/cardguide.html

- Geforce FX 5200 ranks lower than GeForce3 Ti200
- Geforce FX 5200 Ultra ranks lower than Geforce3 Ti500 and "...gets smashed by the GF4Ti 4200..."
- Geforce FX 5600 Ultra: "...this card is a little slower than a Ti4200..."

Unbelievable.

Although "With high detail quality turned on it is much faster than the Geforce4s,"

keeping in mind that some reviewers are legit and some just pimp cards,

are you not concerned about 5600 Ultra being "...just not up to par with the 9500Pro, and far more expensive...."?
