A question: A friend of mine is interested in getting a router for his apartment. Problem is, he and his buddies all have desktops.. not laptops. So there's no point in going for this deal..unless I order the PC card. But I'd need an inexpensive PCI card adapter. If I can score an adapter for cheap, then I'll go for this awesome deal. Can anyone assist?

Thanks!!

Yeah I'm in the same boat; I need a PCI card, not a laptop card :(

$40 for a wireless router and pcmcia card is a smoking deal, go for it if you are halfway interested and find an adapter later. Outpost had a USRobotics pcmcia with pci adapter for $30 a/r a while ago, may still be there, not sure.

I do not know how well they work, but I was at Circuit City today doing the hopefully $15 deal on a router and PC Card and they have a Netgear PC Card Adapter that is a PCI card with a slot in the back that you plug the PC Card into. Don't know about reception isues with no antenna down behind the case, but it was only $20.

Dang...doesn't look like the router can be configured as a bridge. Guess the ol' Xbox has to stay tethered to the wall.

This sounds like the MA301, which seems to sell for $45-60 at various places, and is out of stock everywhere. If it is really $20, consider it a Hot Deal.

I will have to go look at CC as well. I bought the MR814/MA401 combo even though I do not have a laptop, with an eye toward using the router with a Linksys WET11 for my XBox, and perhaps keeping the MA401 around for when I get a laptop. I would like to try moving my cable modem out to the living room, setting up the MR814 hard-wired to the modem and Xbox, then using the MA401 and an MA301 in my desktop. It should work fine, and at least seems worth a try - god knows it would be a lot cheaper than spending $100 on a WET11.

OK, I am a tool.. they printed out duplicate rebates :( You're right, total out of pocket is $80. Ah well.. still not a bad deal.

MAJOR UPDATE!!!!

As previously mentioned, CompUSA has this router as well. The router is $80, USB wireless adapter is $0AR ($60 orig), PLUS you get $30 back if you buy both together!! This previously only applied if you got the router with the PCMCIA adapter. Looks like it works for the USB adapter now too.

Total out of pocket: $50!!!!

CompUSA's "free" USB adapter assumes the Netgear Budled $30 rebate is being used, making the net price $80 (since you can only use the rebate once). If there's something I'm missing, please post.

What is the mess about Amazon indirectly offering through Office Depot or J&R? Is there some way for me to find out if I'm screwed?

I got in on this deal on the 17th, and the Amex code worked fine. Total was $119.98 which minus the $50 = $69.98 (which will become $39.98 after both netgear rebates).

I recieved the PC Card, but the router is scheduled to arrive between March 3-6. Am I cool?

When you made the Amazone online purchase, it would have showed offered by Office Depot on the item page.

Same for me...I'm worried that I won't get in on the $50 amazon rebate. Any thoughts? Thinking of cancelling and getting this elsewhere? Anybody have the Amazon customer service phone # handy?

I know when I ordered, the pages showed both refunds, and I got free shipping, so I know I ordered directly from Amazon (on 17 Feb). I have not received either item, and the Web page shows me receiving the stuff between 5-7 Mar.

Ordered both on the 20th, got the router and card in the same box on the 26th. Used the free shipping. Rebates are already in the mail. I was unaware that this router came with a stand that allows it to be mounted vertically on the desktop, this is a great spacesaving feature. It's a good looking router, much better than my ugly, but trustworthy Dlink.
