Somebody just reported that their Kanguru drive came from PC Connection w/ no UPC code. Can anybody confirm that they got a UPC code for their OEM NEC drive?

I received my NEC Drive direct from NEC just after I got a notice from PC Connection that they were backordered - came with Firmware 2.16 - updated to offical 2.17 and now (12/28/04) to offical 2.18.

this drive is also used in a bunch of other OEM Vendor drives including Mad Dog so there are other firmware updates and hacked firmware updates available that I am not linking because I don't know how well they work (make sure mine works perfectly before doing anything that might void the warranty)

NEC drive, $95, no $50 rebate listed, so while the rebate is still valid thru 12/31 (and I have a copy if anyone needs it), it is a risk that the UPC will come with this drive and this inventory.

Got mine today with the Fujis ...one day earlier than DHL's ETA. It came double-boxed with the burner in a very well padded, (three-tiers of foam and plastic bag) plain brown cardboard box with a UPC label affixed to it's exterior.

I got my drive today, the UPC is on the outside of the box.

hopefully this rebate is valid because:

The pcconnection sku is 5568201 so we should be ok. They describe it as the kit drive, which isn't what we got.

Kanguru DVD RW 16X Int IDE on the 29th. I receieved it the 30th. I don't know why/how this happened so fast. I received the package before i received the email notification that it was shipped!!!

Anyone else get stiffed on the DVD Drive Rebate? They are trying to tell me I didn't send in the UPC Bar code copy or original, when I have a copy of exactly what I sent in. I sent the thing that looked like a bar code, but not exactly. It's all I got. :| If enough of you were also stiffed, pm me. Being an attorney does have its advantages.

Although it shouldn't be on your shoulders to make things right, can you simply resubmit your copies in order to fulfill your rebate requirements?

My two rebates were received on 12/20/04. I called yesterday 3/7/05 for status and they said "the check is in the mail" and call back if you haven't got it by the end of the month - WTF! We'll see in a few days what transpire.

This is the end of MIRs for me. It's a helpless feeling letting someone hold your money hostage for 3 months even after you pay the ransom.
