BEWARE! If you want to port your existing phone number to Congular, do not buy from Amazon, they won't do it. You've been warned.

If you want FAR Razr, check out www.buy.com

damn,

i bought mine at Amazon and they already gave me a #. But i called verizon and they said i can port it over. We'll see

i got my # ported to VZ from Suncom. Usually it would take only a couple of minutes to port it but mine took a day. Suncom is doing the porting by hand, no automated system.

Got my v710 and using that with my pda for access to the net.

How can you order this if you already are a cingular customer?

Just order it. You're still eligible for the offer, but it will be a new line with a new contract. You'll have multiple Cingular accounts.

FWIW, I've ported numbers to Cingular service (from T-Mobile and Sprint) for phones/contracts that I didn't purchase direct from Cingular, but were bought through authorized resellers (Sam's Club kiosk and Amazon.com.) I just handled it directly with Cingular customer svc. Took about a day to get it through, and a few phone calls, but the numbers ported.

Is Cingular good? I just want a cellphone with bluetooth. I'm in the market right now and this looks cool 🙂 Although the pre-paid phones sound nice since I don't talk a ton...

You can do the same with Amazon.com, but you can kiss the rebate bye-bye.

Are you referring to porting the number, Muadib? As explained above, I've done this through Amazon.com, and received all rebates.

An isolated case, perhaps?

Isolated indeed. You could wait until you get the rebate, and then port, but it takes 4-5 months before you see the rebate.

This offer has been extended to 6/29..

BTW, can I get 2 phones and add the 2nd one as an additional line ? Will it still qualify for the rebates ?

Amazon doesn't do family plans, so each phone would have it's own plan.

If you go to a CompUSA/Good Guys megastore tomorrow morning at 8am, you can get the Razr (Cingular Plan) for $100 AR PLUS a free iPod Shuffle 1GB.

I saw this in the SJ Mercury News...perhaps your local paper will have it too. BTW...the ad says a free #1 selling mp3 player 1GB size, retail value $149...so I'm guessing they mean the shuffle.

Quote from Amazon's site:

"Cingular and Amazon.com have not yet established a method for customers to transfer their current number to a new Cingular account. Unfortunately, in order to port your previous number, Cingular will cancel the account that Amazon.com activated and will activate a new account with the ported number. This process makes you ineligible for the Amazon.com rebates. We hope to offer a porting option in the coming months, so please check back."
