This is a Dual Format burner under the micro advantage label. I have no idea who the original manufacturer is. The product number is 2040-5134. The drive is not listed on the Omax website, but here is the DrMnfr Link.

Scan of the Ad

If you were lucky enough to get one of the $25 off $125 Omax coupons in your mail, the deal breaks down like this.

$200 - $70 IR - $25 Coupon - $50 MIR = $55 AR + Tax on $105

If you didn't get one of these coupons, don't fret because there are some $30 off $150 Coupons floating around.

Add $20 of filler to your order and get it for

$200 - 70 IR + $20 Filler - $30 Coupon - $50 MIR = $70 + Tax on $120

For example, You can get 25 Memorex DVD+R (2066-2285) disks for $25 out the the door.

Getting your total price down to $50 is a YMMV. Its been reported that Office Max will not accept coupons for FAR items. But if you can swing it, this deal becomes even Hotter.

To try to get it for $50, you can add..

The Drive ($200) - 70 IR + Endust Duster ($9 after IR 0221-4151) + GE 4 Device Remote ($10 after IR 2067-0882) + 50 pk Jewel Cases ($5 after IR 2007-4090) - $30 Coupon - $50 Drive MIR - $9 Duster MIR - $10 Remote MIR - $5 Jewel Case MIR = $50 + Tax on $124

It's a BTC 1004IM. I had one before when it was $100 AR. It's not bad as long as you use compatible media. Upgrade the firmware (043) at BTC's web site when you get it to minimize possible problems.

manufacturer's specs

Micro Advantage FW upgrade page

You might not want to upgrade to 045 because BTC yanked it from their site due to some problems they found.

pxc - can you give us the "compatible media" that you've had the best luck with? I think that the OMax Memorex 25 pack DVD+Rs are $24.99 after instant rebate - are those OK?

TIA.

You can not use on-line coupon for this DVD writer. It is time to check my junk mail pile for the printed coupon.

My local OM let me use a staples 20 off 100 coupon so it ended up being 59 after rebate for me, still not a bad deal.
Also note that it comes with Power DVD, Easy CD/DVD creator, photosuite, and a blank dvd+rw
Not a bad bundle for 60$

Officemax's new warning
**THIS OFFER CANNOT BE USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH ANY OTHER COUPON OFFERS**
has me avoiding some of their deals like this because I don't yet know if they really reject rebates due to coupon use.

This drive is now shown on the top of the featured products section of their home page: http://www.officemax.com/

Thanks venk for posting this.

Anyone know if Officemax rebates can be rejected due to coupon use as they warn? I have one test rebate in process now to see what they do but it hasn't gone through yet. $50 is a big rebate to miss out on if using a coupon can invalidate it.

I wouldnt sweat it if you bought it in-store, though you might have a problem if you did it online. On the in-store recipt there is no mention of the coupon at all.

Are you aware they recently changed their computer system? When I returned one of items I bought (which I used coupon), they refunded in pro rata; unlike before, if I returned everything, I actually made money. Let us know how your rebate goes, cross my fingers for you.

Update,

Flashed my drive with the newest bios and went off to burn away, first impresions are that its a very nice drive. Burned on the included dvdrw no problems. Then tried the cheapest bare cd's I could find, burned great at 40x

For the $$ you just cant beat it.

I tried adding the $25 coupon to the order and when I got to checkout the coupon was removed. Stating that this product is not eligible for a discount. I might have to try this instore.

I ordered the Pacific Digital DVD dual drive from Staples on BF for $60 after MIR and $30 off $150 coupon and I'm hoping to get an Optorite (RV1) or an NEC 1300 (RV2) in the box when it comes this Friday. But if the BTS drive is ok then I might just keep it if that's what comes in the box. Eh, for $60 even if it's a BTS it might be worth it for that price.

Jax, did you try to burn a DVD using the cheapest media yet?

I just used the dvd+rw that came with it, worked out fine. Compared to the plextor that I recived from newegg that wont burn a darn thing I cant complain about this drive. On a side note newegg has begun charging restocking fee's to the tune of 15% what a drag :(

For the firmware update - should I download and install it from the BTC site or from Micro Advantage site - or are they both the same?

I downloaded from microadvantage, it is ver. 043. Works great, not a coaster yet (used memorex, hp, and two off-brand.)
