There are no multiple rebates for the harddrive involved.

It is possible to get this harddrive for less, IF your local store will accept Staples online coupons that you have received. "References" to these coupons can be found at Fat Wallet; however, care should be taken using *ANY* "printable" coupon you have not received directly from Staples, as several bogus coupons have surfaced.... (expired coupons which have been forged/edited). Currently there are *NO* legitimate coupons posted at Fat Wallet (read the coupon fine print).

The previously reported rebate - rebate promotion #02-50547 - is incorrect. It is for Staples.com purchases only - which currently is not listing the Maxtor 120Gb harddrive.

FWIW, the in store flyer at my local Staples did not have the "banner at top of the first page" on it. It looks very similar to the online flyer, but without the gift card option.

So, not only did they not know about the Gift Check promotion, and not only did nothing print out at the register, there was no way for me convince them that it even existed.

HarryK - yesterday (while making 'my run'), I happened across a screen on one of the Staples kiosks at the Customer Service desk, where someone had left-up a screen that provides Corporate-level descriptions/information on Staples' current promotions.

Here's what I was able to copy on promotion 02-50850 ($20 Gift Check with in-store product purchase of $150 or more), before one alert CSR noticed I was "writing something down...." and spun the kiosk around:

"Program - A special mail-in rebate promotion will be going on in your store 11/10/02 - 11/16/02. Your 11/10 circular .... "

Well, that's all the further I got - I was hoping to copy the entire two paragraph message. Oh well, the rest is paraphrased below....

Approximately 6-percent of Staples in-store sales are for orders totaling $150 or more (tone of the message was this is considered 'less than desireable'). This program is designed to see if rebate and gift card/check promotions can "entice" more people to spend more, by offering such "incentives" to increase in-store traffic. Basically, "if they come, they will spend.... ".

The take-home message here is, if there's good response to this "offer", Staples may begin making such offers more frequently to boost their bottom-line. Thus (some) store managers will be looking to go all-out to increase their percentage of large in-store sales. Hence "we" should benefit from this new Corporate policy, if it becomes permanent. Therefore it is imparitive that everyone go take advantage of this program....

undone - sorry man, looks like your Staples is not in the test region for this program. That probably explains why the rebate form isn't listed on the Staples.com website. The rebate fulfillment center would have a hard time "tracking" who is (and who isn't) eligible based on which Staples Store they made their in-store purchase at. If you look at the banner ad in the flyer, you can faintly see the following text/disclaimer:

"*Offer valid 11/10/02 through 11/16/02 in select stores. Price paid at register must exceed or equal $150. Limit one per household. " (emphasis mine)

Again - Sorry guys, looks like this test promotion may not be nation-wide....

Anyone know if Staples is 'testing' this promotion overseas?

Very interesting info. Yeah, I didn't select my current address when looking at the online in-store circular. Indeed, when I select my city (Columbus Ohio) the online ad doesn't show the $20 gift card.

OTOH, if I drive 45 miles away, I could get the gift card. Go figure.

Hopefully they'll do this again and more often.

Hey Ryan - this is not a double-dip rebate deal. That's two separate listings for the same rebate, in case one link is not working and/or gets pulled. The Maxtor link allows you to print-out the actual rebate form you might expect to receive in-store. The Staples.com link, allows you to file your rebate online, for easier and direct tracking, by printing-out a pre-filed, pre-filled-out rebate form. In some instances it results in an expedited rebate claim. Additionally, I have never had a problem getting the Staples Rebate Center CSRs, to correct a problem with a rebate filed through their online system (despite Parago's better attempts). RebatesHQ.com / Parago is Staples primary rebate fulfillment center.

chi30 - currently, the rebate form is not available on staplesrebates.com - so there are no online links available to the general public, that I am aware of. The form I received, is basically a laser-printer printout of the rebate form (two pages, front side only) that the store manager had to download/print. There is no URL address or any other internet-like header/footer information anywhere on either page. The form appears to be either a .pdf file, or high-quality .jpg file. The only way to get a copy of the rebate form, is directly from a participating Staples store.
