There was a guy on Amazon who reviewed the speakers and built a box to put the sub on top of it, which he said made it sound better. I'm going to build one in the next couple weeks for kicks, I can ask him if I can post his pictures of the setup if anyone is interested.
yes interested
Here are a few pictures:

Summing up my email correspondence with him, he had issues with the sub being too boomy and the system being somewhat unbalanced because of the distance between the subwoofer and satellites. He built a wooden box out of 3/4" wood (poplar or birch from Home Depot should work fine), then used a bead of wood glue and some dryway screws about every six inches to put it together. He also put 4 drywall screws through the bottom for spikes, sticking out enough so that the box didn't smash the carpet (kind of like pegs on the bottom, with the flat side of the screws sticking out).
Then he went to the beach and filled it with sand. It ends up weighing about 50 or 60 pounds, he said. He also mentioned that you can find some "play sand" for about six bucks for 50 pounds. Play sand is supposed to be finer sand and the particles sit better than regular cement mix sand. Then take a rubber mallet and whack the sides of the box to make the sand settle, and get as much sand as you can in there.
Basically, the point of this is to build a stand that has a lot of mass and weighs so much that the woofer can't resonate it. He said the bass went from muddy and boomy to tight. He said he was willing to take more pictures of it if necessary.
I'm looking forward to trying this out!
