How's this mouse for gaming? How big is it?

I have mx500 (same mouse, different color) and it's the best mouse for gaming I've ever used, period. One thing that bugged me at first when transitioning from microsoft mouse to logitech is logitech mice are a lot heavier. I had to open it up a year later to clean copper button connectors and actually discovered they put metal weights inside. It was only a problem for a first week or so until I got used to swinging it harder, so I didn't bother taking them out cus I got so used to it already.

i have the same red one. i like the looks better than the blue. and since my old mouseman optical was blue anyways, i wanted change. its a great mouse, i paid over $40 for mine couple months ago.

well don't use the "detect game to turn off acceleration" feature. it trips off in windows all the time when video windows or direct x calls happen or something. very annoying. i just leave accel off, its fast enough.

I don't use their software, I let windows install basic mouse driver and that's it. But it sure would be nice for logitec to actually get their acceleration off in games feature to work and not just have an option for it that does nothing. I ended up just using registry fix to disable acceleration.

I ordered one like last week, at $39.98, was able to email in and get $9.91 credited since the price dropped before it shipped.

I've used an MX500 for a while now, and the 510 is virtually the same, just looks different and allows the keys to be mapped specificially for games. I like the logitech software; it works just fine for me. I don't see a point in usin an 8 button mouse if you're not gonna use all 8 buttons, which you can't do without their software. The one thing I had trouble with was that there was no orientation option, so it took me a few weeks to get real used to.

It's not heavy at all, and the comfort is rather nice. I bought an MX1000 and while I liked the feel of the mouse in my hand better, I didn't care for the positioning and options of the additional buttons on it...returned it and got an MX510. The 510 is lighter than the 1000 and about the same as the 500.

Wow fast shipping. I ordered 2 nights ago and got it today.
Same here! I'm glad I didn't pay any extra for fast shipping!

I like it ok so far, feels smooth. I don't get the scroll buttons on either side of the scroll wheel. Why not just use the scroll wheel? I like the forward and back buttons and the smooth accurate pointer control so far.

I'm still getting use to it myself but so far I use the scroll to move the page while reading while the buttons I can zoom up or down quick. So far I like it alot.

So what's so bad about acceleration within a game?

Acceleration is making mouse pointer on your screen move exponentially faster the faster you move your mouse. It's awesome for windows cus you can just jerk your mouse a little bit and pointer will end up all the way on the other side of the screen. But for games for example, when you notice an enemy off to the side and you jerk your mouse to get that fling shot off, your player will end up doing a 360 or more degrees. No precision at all. With acceleration on in the game you have to be carefull to move your mouse real slow or you will be spinning out of control. With newer games it's not a problem, but if you like to play older games ( I still play action quake2), then older games incorrectly disable acceleration in windows xp (facking microsoft changed registry keys dealing with acceleration) and you end up having acceleration in the game which makes the game totally unplayable.

So with acceleration cursor movement changes exponentialy, while without acceleration cursor movement is linear, ie if you move your mouse 1 inch, no matter how fast or how many times, your player will always rotate exactly the same ammount of degrees.

WOW, that's all I can say :Q

I placed my order ~9pm 10-19-04.

I get an email at 3am 10-21-04 saying that my product was shipped.

My package arrives ~5pm 10-21-04.

That's good for FREE SHIPPING . Seems like it was overnight'd but it was supposed to be UPS Ground (5-9 business days). I can't even begin to express my happiness 😀.

EDIT: I guess it was shipped from a location that was about an hours drive away from my house...that would explain why I got it so early.

Damn, I just paid $45 from zipzoom fly a week ago.

I am under whelmed with the mouse. Everyone says it is so great, it is no better than the Intellmouse Explorer I had prior.

The intellimouse has a very fast optical reader, it's actually a great mouse for being released so long ago.

I just grabed one of these, I would have prefered Blue but @ $30 delivered I'll settle for Red, my Mx500 can now go w/ my laptop instead of my old 2nd gen Logitech optical mouse more buttons will be nice 🙂

Don't know if it's my imagination or what, but I kicked ass with my new MX510! I won 4 straight DM on UT2k4 MP--never happened before!

When you guys odered when did it say it was going to ship? It said mine was going to ship Nov 1st, but on the description page it says 1-2 days.
