Review.

Almost $35 bucks off retail. Best deal I can find on the web. Price ($79.98) is good even without the rebate.

Feature set is impressive, to say the least.

Not as pretty as Microsoft's forthcoming Sidewinder, IMHO, but it's got 1200 more DPI than the Sidewinder, and interchangeable faceplates.

Rebate, good for purchases through 9/30/07.

With the rebate and Google Checkout, this deal is SMOKING! $55.99!

Edit:

Circuit City now has it for $79.99, so if you've got CC B&M nearby, and you're worried about the "local retailer" language in the rebate, you could always pick one up there instead...

That looks like a downgrade from the G5 2007.

No kidding, it's butt ugly. I'll stick with my G7 thank you...

bump for a price lower than anywhere else though!

You're both crazy...the mouse looks to be incredible, regardless of "looks." It's about functionality, not looks, as far as I'm concerned. The MS Sidewinder "looks" awesome, but it can't keep up with the G9's features, which explains why it will be $20 cheaper. Either way, I'll post a review in the peripherals thread when mine arrives 😀

Not trying to start an argument here, but I only see 2 things different about this mouse from the G5
+Improved Scroll Wheel
+Higher DPI laser

But the design is ugly. I would recommend anyone looking at this mouse to also look into the much cheaper G5.

I bit. I am getting pretty sick of the scroll wheel issues on my G5. Plus, I got the $10 for GCO so $70.99 shipped. Expensive for a mouse but a good deal for something this new.

I got my G9 today from the dell deal back at the begining of the month. I love it. When I die they are gonna bury it with me.

Wow, $81 mouse. That's more than I spent on my cpu, mobo, and gfx card. I'm still waiting for Diamondbacks to fall into the $20 range so I can replace the Dell mouse that replaced my dead Viper.

Yeah it's definitely not cheap for a mouse, but if you spent less on your cpu, mobo, and vga, you most likely don't want to play the newest games and want the best performance from them, so you wouldn't need a mouse like this one.

I figure that if new games cost up to $50 + tax, and many gamers buy several games a year, it's worth it to spend slightly more once every few years on a mouse that will get the most out of the newest games.

Agreed the *new* G5 is also a good one. But it's still at least $56.99 shipped, so it's just a question of whether the enhanced DPI and scrolling (plus whatever other new features the reviewers are touting) are worth $25 bucks or so to you (or $15 with google checkout). <--Moot in light of rebate added to OP...G9 is now cheaper!!!

Either way, decent discounts are available on both of the newest logitechs, and reviewers love them both!

I bet this is more ergonomic than that jelly bean looking thing. I hate that 510 series of mice!!

It's not like this mouse is better than what you currently have, it's just different. You'll WANT to think it's an improvement (after all, you did just spend 81 USD on it).

So unless you have one of those $5 optical mice that will randomly skip on you, I'd put $$ into something that will improve something.

Well, I've been using a wireless trackman marble, which I love for normal computing, but it's crap in games because (1) it's wireless and (2) it's a trackball. So for me, it will be a major improvement. And I used google checkout and now I can use the rebate (thanks galbicake!), so it's really $55.99, not $80.99. Still not terribly cheap, but cheaper than the new G5, which is the other mouse I was considering.

True! OP updated.

Now cheaper than the new G5 by one dollar! 😀

Yeah, that will be a MAJOR improvement. Nice deal.

how much better is this than the MX1000?, after the 1000 it seems that there isnt much major improvement, mx1000 has the alt+tab button in between the back and forth which is quite nifty, scrolling and what not works nice and smooth,

the only thing this G9 mouse has that is coveted interms of button functionality is the macros, the higher DPI is nice but i have no issues in gaming at all with this mice so i dont know what more DPI can noticeably improve

I might spring for this. If I do, I know I'll regret it almost immediately, though. So perhaps I won't... Gah, I'm so torn.

If you regret it because it's expensiveish... tell yourself how much time you are going to spend using it. You probably spent $100 on shoes that you wear for the one wedding you go to every 3 years.

I ordered one. I have been looking into a better mouse for a while. I am currently using the MX1000. I plan on giving my MX1000 to my parents to replace the MX700 they use since its a PITA to get it to sit in the charger correctly.
