Not a bad deal, but I the Live Drive2 is much better (remote and optical in/out). The funny thing is Creative is still selling these Live drive1 for like $130 on their web site. :Q

Heads up guys. Live! Drive II only has optical in and out. Live! Drive IR has the remote. And wasn't Live! Drive II a Euro/Japan only product? My few cents.

The LiveDrive 2 was included in the Live Platinum sound cards in europe. Creative had this program where you could buy the live drive 2 if you sent in $50 and your original live drive.

I got one of these a year ago with my Sounblaster live platinum card. I wanted it for the volume controled headphone jack so I could listen to music. Unfortunately, the output level of the live drive is very weak. It won't drive decent headphones (AKG K240 & Sennheiser HD580) at anything close to a realistic level. Also, the sound quality from the Soundblaster absolutely sucks compared to any good home stereo. I am puting together a new PC and it will NOT have a Soundblaster card in it.

The Live! Drive that came with the European version was not a Live Drive II since the only difference was that one had Optical I/O. Live Drive II also has the RCA inputs to boot. Good thing for me I was about to trade in my Live Drive for Live Drive II last year, but looks like I'll be getting a platinum 5.1 :D

So lets see.

Order a Live MP3+ from Staples for $51(after pricematch and $25 coupon)
Order a Live Drive from compgeeks for $29

So for $80 I would end up with a non-5.1 Live Platinum

Heard good things about Turtle Beach as far as sound quality goes. I really don't listen to music on my computer so I'm not too discriminating as far as the sound coming from my sound card.

Does anyone else make anything like this? I like the idea of a unit like this in an empty bay but one with a normal gameport, usb port, as well as a headphone and mic jack and I would be all set.

The frontx thing comes with a bracket that mostly covers an expansion slot, but leaves just enough room for the cables to fit through. Besides, your PC is in less danger from dust coming in through holes in the case than it is from heat damage from not enough ventilation. :)

The Sound Blaster Live 5.1 *does* come with a LiveDrive II IR
I got one from comdex for $99

[edit: It comes with an infrared remote, Hence the "IR" in the name]

Turtle Beach has pretty good soundcard, excellent sounds. However, they are a bit slow on driver for Win2k. How do I know? I have a Quazilla II and it still doesn't have a driver for it. Perhaps it's different for other Turtle Beach products, shrugs~
