not sure if this is hot or not..

wanted to upgrade my notebook combo drive for a while now..

found this place with Lite-On dvdrw slim drive for $120.. (did a search on pricegrabber.. min. was $299 for Averatec notebooks only)..

LiteOn Combo

my only question is.. is it for Uniwill notebooks only.. or can it be integrated into other brand notebooks..

anyways.. just sharing this deal.. and if someone can tell me if it'll work with other notebook brands.. i might just buy it and give it a try..

Most laptops now have universal CD/DVD drives, and the Lite-on looks like it could be one of these types. Sometimes you will need to swap bezel for a perfect fit.

I believe the Liteon is the same as Sony.
A much better drive, and the one that is most recommended for laptops, is the NEC ND-6500A at Newegg or Chiefvalue now priced at under $100 delivered:

I am waiting for a decent slot drive.
Doesn't need to be DL, since DL media is a way too overpriced.
Any cheap quality DVDRW slot drives out there?

Do a search for Panasonic UJ-815B or UJ-825B (if you want faster DVD burn speeds) on eBay. Should only run you about $85 for the first or $120? for the second.

Thanks for the links and info on the slot drives.
So far, looks like Pioneer is best buy at around $105 from several venders.
Faster than NEC 6500a, slot loading, for only a few dollars more..

Now if I could only find detailed testing reviews, or even better, a testing comparison review of Pioneer Vs NEC or other slim laptop drives..............

Still wish I could find a slot drive with speeds like above, but without having to pay the premium for DL, which I will not use with this generation of drives due too media prices. Should be able to save $20 or more if they would drop that useless (for most) feature.

Thanks again.

How did you remove the drive and replaced it with this one? I was not able to find any screws to remove the drive. Thanks.
