I have the exact same board and yes you can disable the Raid controller or just use them as an Extra IDE controllers.

It's very stable, but I think this is more of an enthusiast board geared towards overclocking and not for servers.

Dont get me wrong, it can go both ways but it's such a shame to see ABIT boards running at it original FSB.

Onboard raid only with this motherboard, sorry. Great for me though, as I already have everything else from other machines.

I've been running Windows 2000 server as domain controller with this KR7A-RAID/XP 1800+/1GB unregistered Kingston DDR memory a couple months now (w/o overclock, however). Very stable, never have any problem and it's quite fast on game. BTW, would somebody help me to o/c the XP 1800+ or point me to an appropriate site. I would like to o/c my 2. KR7A-RAID running XP 1800+ on Windows XP Pro workstation. Thanks:)

yes, you can disable the RAID via bios. remember though, the Abit uses a Highpoint 372 Raid controller with ATA/133... i use it and it pretty kick ass.

I looked at the specs looks hot, but does it have some sort of heat throtling control, i donno what its called but i've seen reviews of AMD boards that have protection so if say your fan fails, it just slows down the clock or shuts down the pc or something and beeps to let you know... Anyway i think you know what im talking about now, i've fried one too many AMD cpu's, so i does anyone konw if this board has something like that? and/or what its proper name is?

Hey TheScavenger,

This board doesn't monitor the on-chip temperature diode, which is what's needed to protect the chip from a meltdown. It does have a temperature probe under the processor, but I don't know if there's any software that will shut it down automatically.

The KG7 shuts down or wont boot up if the fan (or tac) dies, but the dumb VIA hardware monitor only alerts if sitting on the tray.
