So are you pretty confident that you can run two 512MB sticks at CAS2 in dual-channel on an nForce2 mobo? Once you (or anyone else, if you already have) try this, let us all know, would ya?

JTrain,

Come Tuesday (and FedEx SS), I hope to test both channels of a GA8-INXP with the HyperX3000 of which I was openly skeptical just yesterday. No, I don't expect to get 2/2/2/6 @ 3000 because, if the DC limitation functions similar to the RAID one (smallest HD), the system will be limited by the slowest of the 4 sticks. And yes, I considered buying 5, and keeping the best sending the slowest back, sort of a Corsair roll-your-own LL package. Only time will tell; we learn by doing.

Amazon has the Kingston 512MB HYPERX DDR 370MHZ DIMM for $101.99 - $10 coupon = $ 91.99

No Sales Tax & Free Super Saver Shipping to California

- plus a $40 gift certificate I needed to use up made this a HOT deal for me

This table should tell you everything you need to know as they checked DDR compatability of both 256 and 512MB sticks of various brands, with 2 and ALL slots filled, in a variety of nForce2 mobos Hardtecs4u nForce2 memory compatability table

But that article didn't test the Kingston Hyper X line - I thought that was the problem in the first place, doubling up Kingston modules on nForce2 mobos... maybe I'm losin' it...

Looks like it's ok for at least some people - here's a thread I started at nForcersHQ.com. There are several other threads there that deal with what kinds of memory are working in nForce2 mobos. From what I've read there and here at AT, Kingston Hyper X looks to be one of the brands that works with nForce2.

3500 Shootout

Anyway, I just got delivery and had a chance to compare several different configurations of HyperX3000/512 in a Gigabyte GA-8INXP coupled with a 2.66 @ 150FSB on stock cooling. I didn't bother with the 2336 SPD settings. The Integer and FP benchmarks in MB/sec are as follows:

3708/3699 2x512 @ 2226
3707/3704 4X512 @ 2226
3711/3711 4x512 @ 2225

Looks like plenty of headroom, at least while running at a 2400 clip.

Will 512 MB (x2) of Hyperx work on the NForce2 boards or is it better to stay with the 256 MB (x2) ?

I don't know if this has been noted or not yet but the original excaliberPC.com link has lowered its price to $75 w/ free shipping.

Newegg now lists it for $69 + $6 shipping but OOS.

I have 2 - 512meg sticks of the Kingston HyperX 2700 and have 0 problems. Completely stable at the strongest available timings. This is on a Epox 8RDA+ mobo. BTW: I got my sticks for $74 shipped 2nd day at googlegear.com.

And the prices just keep going lower! I'm now running these (2 2 2 5) and so far so good. Also not really straining them....... yet!
