Because of the fact that no one that sells the item has it (not just CompUSA), and the fact that the rebate deal is from I/O Magic and not CompUSA, I would lay the blame with I/O Magic and their supply process. Based on the notice I saw on I/O Magic's web storefront (which I posted in a previous post), I am led to believe that they shut down distribution on 12/18/01.

That said, I agree that I/O Magic really fumbled the ball here.

Of the 25 MIR I have done since actively following this Hot Deals forum, an I/O Magic MIR for $20 is the only one to stone wall on paying up.

When I checked and then complained to their local Better Business Bureau, sure enough - complaints about rebates not being honored.

*** IF *** you want to insure getting paid, photocopy / scan absolutely everything, front and back, receipt, UPC, rebate form, ....

Make sure to follow up, probably repeatedly.

Good Luck.

Best Buy has the ATI TV Wonder VE listed on its website this week for $50-10 MIR. Reviews on it seem to be pretty good...does anyone have experience with this card? Considering the rebate from i/o magic is so iffy I'm considering picking up this card instead.

EDIT- Ugh nevrmind it seems as if this card's highest quality is 320x240. Count me out.

ABTM: I tend to believe (CompUSA/BestBuy/Circuit City) are all devious when it comes to posted sales circulars.

Its curious how an "advertised" item re-emerges back on the shelves after the sale ends. In my area, all 3 stores can be "out" of an item on sale during the add, and then a day later have TONS of the same item now at regular price.

My local Best Buy will even store sale items on the TOP of their display rack (with the sale item being out on the shelf). I have climbed ontop to get items, they were "out" of many times. I guess most people just dont look up, or around when they see an empty rack.

That is a valid point and I do plan on checking my local CompUSA locations and the website about a week from now. The only reason why I at this point do not believe it is a CompUSA mess (and believe me I kow they have plenty), is because no one (not just CompUSA) has this card. If I find the cards magically available early next week, I will make sure people know about it.

I used to work at comp and I have access to their ITS systems to check the stock and I found that most stores are indeed out of the item, so I really think that you can chalk this one up to IO Magic. They need to ship way more of these....

anyone think they could pick an extra one up for me? i just moved my desktop downstairs yesterday, and i'm bored down here already 🙁

Placed order last Monday 12/31 before noon. Have received 2 emails from CompUSA saying my order has been received and then my order has been approved. Checking status online yields that my order is in process.

I have the feeling that this is all that we will ever receive from cr@pusa.

Dear [MY NAME],

Your CompUSA order (#[ORDERNUMBER]) is currently out of stock.

Due to the high demand for this product, we are currently out of stock. We
are working with our vendors to replenish this product as soon as possible.

If, at any time, you would like to cancel this order or make other
arrangements, please e-mail us at cancel_order@compusa.com. Otherwise, you
will be notified via e-mail when all items have been shipped.
============================

The sad part is my local CompUSA had it in stock I just felt it was worth $5 to avoid the hour driving.

Just got the same message and waded through the long phone
support. If you've got one on order, CompUSA will be having
another rebate and we can fulfill our rebate through that
order. Otherwise, I think they'll be getting a lot of returns...

dammit, it's out of stock for me too (I got the email). the funny thing is, I ordered AT 2AM SUNDAY!. wtf?

That's odd.... I ordered mine at about 9 a.m. on Sunday morning... It arrived today. I can't get the sound to work with it right now though.... Still working on it.

Best of luck to you all.

🙂Thank you Jimmy! I picked one of these up at the local CPU, plugged it into my K7S5A, loaded the WIN2K drivers and it runs great on XP Pro! For the dough it's a real bargain IMO.

I got one at the Compusa B&M in Raleigh, NC. Seems to be pretty good at capturing, but anytime I record the sound comes out a little distorted... (might be my onboard audio)? Any suggestions?

Yeah, my audio here is a major plague. The sound of my TV or playstation comes out, but there is this high frequency pitch that always comes through, and it seems to get worse when I play back the recording? Anyone know what's up here?

I have had this card since August. It works great for capturing but i mainly use it for watching and recording tv. I see some people have issues with the audio portion of the the card. I found the line in connection sucks. The volume level was too low for my liking. Besides, I have 4 computers and i like to hook them up to one set of speakers by connecting the speaker out to line in of the computer next to it. Anyhow, the line in connection of this card upset my setup and I didn't like it so much. Never satisfied, I examined the pcb and noticed it had the silkscreen for a standard audio connector as you have on cd-rom drives. I took the audio connector cable i had from one of my many cd-rom drives and soldered it to the solder pads on the card. I connected the iomagic card to the cd-in of my sound card and the volume level is much better. I don't advise this procedure for those that have no soldering skills and those that believe in warranties. For those with even pathetic soldering skills, it is not too hard to do. Also, I think this may allow stereo but i can't say for sure. It seems like stereo but i can't tell.

I wasn't able to get this deal but the people at CompUSA were willing to give me a $20 instant discount on the Hauppage WinTV since they were holding a IOMagic card for me but couldn't find it when I came to pick it up.

Yeah, I think it's my line in on the sound card that really sucks.....boo.....oh well, I think I will get a SB Audigy to replace this ghetto Maxi Muse...capturing will have to wait I think.

Due to not wanting to wait on hold for over an hour, I emailed the cancel something email asking about rebate dates and they cancelled my order. I don't know if that was an automated cancel process but oh well. At least I won't be in brag and moan complaining about the rebate come next year.

Bought HiVal 100 pack cdr's 74 min and a 56k modem 3 months ago at OM. Had not received my rebate. Talked to store manager at OM, got cash in hand for rebate. I have done this twice on two different rebates, that I never received at OM.

Sorry for bringing a long dead thread back to life, but did anybody manage to get the sound working with dscaler? Also, somebody mentioned soldering an extra audio connector to the card. Can you please PM me about that?
