Hot? Intel D850GB Motherboard for $23

Stratton Computer Services @ http://www.strattoncomputer.com/cpuconverters.html , has a socket 478 to 423 adapter for $32 + $4.77sh.

Have never bought from them but it is a Yahoo store. Have always received good service from Yahoo stores. All small purchases though.

Anyone ever bought from Stratton?

Have had my eye on their slot 1 to socket 370 tulatin adapter. Looking to upgrade my celery 366 but am too cheep. Anyone have any experience with their Slot T adapter?

Also looking to update the bios on my Creative Blaster M003 motherboard. Can find no support for this motherboard. The Award bios site refers me to company that wants to charge $40 to $60. Doesn't seem reasonable. Any suggestions? Trying to upgrade to Celeron 1.4 for less than $100.

good deal. i'm acctually running one of these boards... make sure you do the latest bios update (p17)... rambus kicks BUTT.. i do'nt think this board supports 1066 rambus though... only problem is that i don't think intel will be supporting rambus anymore. 🙁

Current system specs:

boxed intel 1.4ghz
samsung 384mb rambus pc800
Ati radeon 8500
3com nic 3c905c-txm
plextor 24x burner
sony 12x dvd (liteon oem)
WD-120gig w/8mb cache
winxp-pro
Sound blaster live x-gamer
disabled floppy

Notes about the M/b
I believe i got the system about 2.5 years ago.. so it's on it's way out, but i'm still happy with it.
Stability has been phenominal, which is the main reason i prefer to keep this system and NOT
upgrade till i really need to. This motherboard is good, except it doesn't come with a LAN card or onboard sound,
but seoriusly, this board is really solid.. leave your system on for days and there are no issues. OH and neat thing about this board
apparently you don't need the INF update for this board if you're going to use WINxp.. cause the m/b came out before the release of xp.

Downsides of the m/b
No usb2.0.. kinda a bummer since i've been wanting to get some new peripherals
no SATA - of course..
no AGP8x - even more obvoius
only supports 1st gen P4 processors.. soo you' can only get up to a 1.8? i think

so i guess on a final note, i wouldn't buy the m/b unless you have some old P4 laying around and you need a M/B for it, or you have a chip and using a crappy m/b with SD ram or something.. then i dunno,, might be interesting to slap some rambus and a cool m/b

btw-
All i do is the occasional counterstrike, program java/c++ and c# stuff, and intermediate photoshop usage.

You could have clicked the link provided in far quicker time than it took you to click reply!

The link says:
...With support for Pentium 4 processors up to 2.0GHz...

It says 2 ghz, but sometimes the bios supports faster chips than what is out. That is why I was asking.

No, Socket 423 chips ended at 2 GHz, hence the limit.

Actually, this should be able to do more than 2.0. YMMV though. make sure you use thermal paste and a big heat sink. The 423 just stopped at 2.0GHz.
