My service should be down now but i was able to use the public DNS servers because i was savy and wrote them down last time this happened. I switched back to DHCP to get a dynamic DNS and IP from comcast, called the tech support and was able to get a ticket number in which they told me to call back as soon as their DNS servers were back up and get a credit to my account for the time offline

EDIT: let me just pre-empt those of you who think that because i'm able to get online because i'm using different DNS servers doesn't qualify me for the refund....I do pay for the use of their DNS servers as part of the service agreement and with those being down i'm entitled to a refund.

*EDIT* Using the following DNS servers should get you up and running again...

4.2.2.1
4.2.2.2
4.2.2.3
i got them from HERE

UPDATE 4/15
Just called comcast billing and they didn't even ask for my reference number and just credited my account $24.70 for the days of April 1 - 15.

Thanks you comacast! they are great! I'v never had a problem with them and it seems when i do have a problem they make me happy.

lol $5? Mmm...I'd say if they'd give you a month's worth free or something then it'd be great but $5 is not worth any hassle lol. That's like the one company that mistakenly had the price for Zalman HSFs a few weeks ago at $3.99 instead of $39.99 and then told their customers sorry no go and offered 2% discount

Anyone know why they've been having so many problems this last week? I can't remember having prissues in the last two years (surprising after how it used to be before that), and now it seems to be widespread and frequent.

My DSL hasn't gone down since I got it...like 5 years ago. It's 20 bucks a month, too.

Because they run MS DNS servers::(

Took me two days to figure out it was the DNS and not my router; I was so angry! I'd call and complain, but I don't pay for service with my uncapped modem. :)

I would not say it is because they run MS DNS servers, I would rather say it is because they do not know how to configure there MS DNS servers :).

I guess I would agree with that. That reminds me that I have to write down some public DNS servers before it goes down again tonight. Last night it was down so I renewed the IP on my router. A third DNS server was assigned to the router, unlike the normal two. I then released and renewed my IP and everything got back to normal. Maybe they just keep adding new servers and when they get taken over they add more :)

I have to call them anyways for my bill so I might as well complain a little too.

I heard of this tactic before and it is legit. But I only pay $10 a month for broadband so it's not worth calling issues in to get back some spare change? Once this promotion ends, it's a different story...

A big thank-you for this thread. I thought I was going nuts this past week or so during these outages.
