Thanks TimeKeeper for the OM thread and then I find a better one in staples.

Lexmark E-210 Laser Printer
SKU 464078 $150

$50 Mail-in Rebate with purchase of Lexmark E210 Laser Printer
$30 coupon...

Final $70 + Tax!!!

E210 ships with a 1,000-page "starter" toner cartridge; replacement cartridges are rated for 2,000 pages.

It's true that the printer is really cheap to begin with. But, you'll probably get the short end of the stick when it comes to buying the toner. A 2,000-page replacement cartridge costs $80, which works out to about 4 cents per page. I suggest the Brother HL-1440. It's MSRP is about $300, but the quality is impeccable for a laser printer in that price range. It's standard memory is only 2MB, but it's expandable to 34MB. Also, replacement toner cartridges coast about $50 for the 3,000-page capacity and about $70 for the 6,000-page capacity. The cartridge costs work out to about 1.7 cents and 1.2 cents per page, respectively. You decide which would be the better laser printer in the long run. Those are just my 0.02

What about the guy on ebay selling 2 toner refill kits for about $25? Maybe for do it yourselfers only. Works for me.

The MIR is on the Staples printer page. Boy this is tempting. The other thread says this will use a Sansung toner refill that's $60 at Compusa.... I put one in my cart, then I cn decide a little later...

Wow very tempting...

I can sell my current inkjet to a fellow worker and get this laser and make a couple bucks... 🙂

polotek147: To contradict your thoughts, If you buy this laser w/ 2 toners from CompUSA it will run you ~$190 for 5000 pages which ends up being .038 per page. Then you buy the HL-1440 and one extra toner which will run ~$350.00 for 5000 pages (This is assuming the brother has a 2000 page starter toner?) which equals .07 per page.

If you jump it up to the Lex and 5 toners for ~$370 you get 11000 pages for a cost of .034 per page. Add another toner to the Brother (Go for the 5000 page one) you are now at ~$420 for 11000 pages which gets the price down to .038 per page.

It looks to me like you'd have to use your printer a lot more than most ppl ever do to get to the break even point. 🙂

This is just a per page comparision and I have no personal experience to guide me on quality etc.

Just my .05 worth this nasty Sat morning.

Very interesting!
I can summarize the problem in the following equations:
let x be the number of paper you print, then

y1=0.01333x+176.67 (0.01333 is the cost of toner per page for the HL-1440, $40/3000pgs)
y2=0.03x+40 (0.03 is the cost of toner per page for the E-210, $60/2000pgs)
y1 is approximately = to y2 when x= to 8200 pgs or the total spending of $286.

the samsung and Lexmark are using the same engine from fuji. Someone said in newsgroup that you can use lexmark driver for samsung. maybe they are almost identical.

It looks like the replacement cartridge also includes the process unit. Even though that is a lot more expensive than just the toner, in some ways I think it works out better. At least you know when you change the toner that the print quality is going to be as good as when you first got it (not true with printers with refillable process units, in my experience).

Those reviews don't make any sense. If they share the same "print engine" same toner carts, and same drivers.. plus they look 99% identical... what could possibly be different that would impact print quality so much?

Not $30 rebate, $30 Coupon. There's a few $30 of $150 online coupons you can use. You should know where to find them. No $30 rebate was mentioned in the first post whatsoever.

How does this printer compare performance wise to the Minolta 1100 available at Costco which was discussed in another thread? I't's still available at Costco for $129-$30 rebate.

lexmark has usb but the other does not. (I may be wrong). Lexmark can print 1000 page with the starter toner while the other can do 3000 (from what people said in the old thread.) Though you can get 2 refills for lexmark from ebay for $25 + shipping. Don't know about the minolta.

And lexmark is cheaper if you don't print a lot.....

I'm game. I just placed my order. For $70, it's cheaper than replacing my current drum, which needed fixing. Well worth it imo.
