Head on down to Best buy after grabbing sundays (todays) ad of Bestbuy, and Frys electronics. For us folks in Houston, the Frys Ad is on the back of the sports section.

Ok so here it is
Bestbuy - 119.99-40.00 MIR=79.99
Frys Electronics - Flat Out 89.99

Price Match - $119.99=$89.99-$40 MIR=Final Price of $49.99

Great ending price for a 120 gig w/ 8mb cache from a reputable company! Thats about 41 cents a gig.

If the rebate is a manufacturer rebate, you're golden. If the rebate is a BB rebate, it explicitly states that any price changes will invalidate the rebate.

ummm no. That would be illegal, nothing in the fine print of the rebate says your rebate is void if you do a price match.

I guess you didn't see this part under Terms and Conditions:

"Items which have been competitive price matched, price adjusted, will no longer be eligible for this rebate."

link to rebate

I mean, you can still try and see what happens...

yes it does. read your receipt. rebates are void if PMed if it is a BB rebate

wow who would have though? Oh well, Im still getting my rebate, after I sh*t talk the manager for 5 minutes on why the hell would you give me a rebate when you KNEW it was void...believe me, im getting that rebate 😉

don't try and fight the system. return it while you still have a chance. tape the UPC back on if you have to, that's how i returned a hdd once to BB after reading the fine print.

It's easier to just go ahead and buy the drive at full price, then take the rebate and copy of full price receipt to your car, come back in and go to cust. service, and ask for a price match. Has always worked for me. Too bad there are no Frys here.

i would be suprised if that works since they can see their drive is a rebate item. but more power to you if it works 😀

It seems to me, the way to do it is buy the drive at full price so that you get the rebate, and once you've got that receipt make a copy for the rebate then take it back for the pricematch.

edit
(oops, I see someone beat me to it.)

BB's rebate clearing house (in Maine, I think) is tied into the BB's system. They can see if you did a pricematch, regardless of how you do it.

I agree with nallur, I had a BB rebate vioded for that specific reason. Who knows, it may slip through, but not worth the try in my opinion.

good hard drive, i payed like 120 for mine a while back. no problems at all. for 80, and possible 50, this is a steal!

You really should put PM in the title, not only because some people hate pming, but more because your PM involves fry's, and most people don't have a fry's.

No you're not 😉 That clause was put in there just to foil people like you who try to exploit pricematching.

Did this very thing about a year ago when I pm'd a logitech cordless elite duo at bb from om. Ended up paying less than $10 incl. tax on a $99 unit.

No Fry's in Memphis, either.

Hahaha...tough guy huh? Tell us how it works out after you don't get your rebate..

WD and Maxtor 120gb drives will die on you, just depends on how often you use it, would recomend putting it as a backup, storage only and not installing any software or constantly dragging files in and out of it. All my friends and I had to RMA our drives.... Everyone should shell out for SCSI because in the long run, it would pay for itself for not Dieing on you like wd and maxtor.

Those are pretty anecdotal reasons to not buy WD or maxtor. I think we would be better served trusting overall track records and real reviews.

BTW, my own WD 120GB has been running strong for over a year now, just fine. I paid like 80$ for it a year ago. Show me where I can get SCSI for anywhere near that price with a controller card included and i'll switch.
