If you are going to thread crap, at least put some effort into it....

At first I was gonna say nooooooooooooo.... but then i went to the site and saw that it doesn't include the remote. so now I feel better. From the previous one, $80 PVR250 + $60 BeyondTV = $140 so about the same.

But still a good deal though

now if only they threw in a remote...

That would be killer. The PVR 250 from the other sites is at $90 and $95 🙁

I have been using Beyond TV for a few months and after a bit of hardware related difficulty it is awesome!

I would second that and recommend holding off on any purchases of Tivo stock.

Since everyone has one of these. I ordered one. I thought i was happy with my winfast expert in my shuttle box playing to a dell fp2001 on my desktop.

Im not really needing a remote, but what is everyone using or where are they??

Are you sending the output to a TV? How does the quality look?
Right now I am viewing it on my PC monitor and the picture quality sucks (pixelization), plus very slow response.

YOur processor will be fine if you are using a HARDWARE encoder like the onme in this deal (PVR250MCE or just a regular 250)

THe only limiting factor on your procesor wil be the CPU when you are using "showsqueeze" it is a very nice batch tool that can compress your mpeg 2 show into wma or Divx....your will take a while to encode stuff.

I would recommend that you get a larger HD or record in WMA(which the hardware encoder can't help you with as iit only accelerates mpeg2 encoding..

I record 2 hours of tv right now, and with Beyondtv recorded 5+

Each hour is about 3.5GB at FULL mpeg2 quality. In Hi-def divx, the same file is only 300MB

I am curious, after all these software/hardware upgrade, isn't it cheaper to get a DirecTivo for $50? 🙂

I don't think this service requires a subscription fee.... So in the end, this is cheaper I think 😛

I'd like to get a new tuner card, sucks that I'm so cheap. This seems like a good deal, but I'm still waiting for the PVR250 FAR/AC/APM @ OM. 😛😛

I hate to imagine the excitement you would experience if you ever got laid.

1) i don't have sattelite🙁
2) I don;t want a tivo for basic cable....
3) my PC is a HTPC...so it is natural..as my TV is plugged into it

4) CompressionCompressionCompressionCompression - THese programs can automatically creat batch files and reencode your files in Divx or WMA overnight, allowing for archiving due to the increase in space and sharing/viewing away from home

I did the same thing with a Shuttle, XPMCE and an avermedia m150. My only problem was the Shuttle only 32 megs of onboard video and XPMCE needs 64 to run, if you have that then you are fine, otherwise you need a cheap 64 meg or more AGP card.

I've had plenty of these cards and HTPCs. That was until I got the lava hot ReplayTV deal. Since then, I only turn on my HTPC to watch HDTV. Here's some advance. Skip on this card and put the money toward a Replay or Tivo. You'll be much happier.
