IMO getting a laptop for gaming is a waste. If you want portable gaming then an SFF system is probably the way to go.

that dell looks craptacular!

gimme my sager! not only does it look better, but it has better features and performance! btw, i just bought an 8890

My 8600 play Unreal Tournament 2003 very well with the ATI 9000 and a PentiumM 1.4ghz cpu in it and 512mb of ram. The only thing really slowing mine down is the slow hard drive and the 9000. Both of those I can change according to Dells website. I haven't really looked into it, but I'm sure soon enough I'll be able to buy a faster hard drive and a faster ATI card for the 8600 and have quite a gaming laptop that weighs less, looks better, and even after the upgrades will run less than half the price. Only got 1100 into it right now.

Since they're using desktop processors in them, these are gonna be HOT! And judging by the size, it's gonna be HEAVY too.

Ahhh.. Now I see the true meaning of "HOT" deal........

Melting hot.

Gee, no bluetooth and no infrared (not even an option). Guess I got used to getting these. The screen sucks too. Nothing that weights that much should have that small a screen anymore.

I have a work laptop that's totally locked down even though that's not the industry standard. Can you see me going through the airport with 1 laptop and a SFF? Can you see me going through the airport with a SFF? Going through the airport with 2 laptops is at least workable (though I'm NOT looking forward to it, shudder....)

this new model is a bad thing all around.
after all the money dell spends into making these, and no one will buy them, they are going to have to RAISE PRICES of all other models! 🙁

I wonder i should take the Black snap on cover for my Dell 8500 😀.... it shud fit...same screen size!

The thickness of that thing is ridiculous....

Though I guess it fits for some people... I have an 8500, and I don't really ever use it unplugged, the only reason i have a laptop is so i can easily move it from one place to another, not so much so I can use it imbetween those places.

now, as for spending 3 g's on a laptop...

Why waste $1500 - 2000?

i've taken my notebook to lan games plenty of times. a lot better than lugging a monitor around.

It is a small step in the right direction. If there were no innovation of this kind in the laptop market then we would forever be stuck with those clunky desktops. I know desktops are powerful, but wouldn't it be nice to have a laptop that's just as powerful? This is only the beginning of the future growth of the laptop market.

Large coporations like Dell are jumping in because the profit margins are much higher in laptops thatn desktops. That is a well known fact as desktops hardly make a huge profit per unit.

I personally don't need such a crazy configuration, but if Dell is producing it you can bet there is a market demand for that monster laptop.

I wish they'd start putting fullsize keyboards on the widescreen laptops. Seems like they should be able to squeeze a number pad on there nowadays.
