Again...never had my MD skip on me nor did my CD player ever skip....even when jogging or running my ass to class on campus.

<< but different people have different needs... >>

Right there.. that nails this whole thread. People have different needs. Personally, I use my 'device' (on a research spree before I buy with the Feb 1 payday) on my motorcycle 99.99999% of the time. It's powered directly off the bike and gets hooked to my intercom/headset system (for myself and pillion). I'm often out cruising around the GA mountains for 8~10 hours at a time on my days off (when it's nice enough) and don't want to carry a bunch of media (I'm already doing that with my current CD player). I have a billion and one MP3s (exageration.. come on guys.. :D), and a brand new 24x CD burner... for my purposes, the Slim-X is THE purchase (as best I can tell right now).

If I were training for marathons, then maybe a minidisc system would be the choice. It's almost all in how you plan to use the units.. at least it's getting that way.

Ok, let the humble *cough, choke* opinions resume their normal flow.

NetMD is definitely not a sony only product. Sharp also carries the Open MG software, but i can see where people don't like the idea of different encryption on their music. However, MD's are pretty much normal audio, so once it's on your MD, who the hell cares? Nobody's stopping you from having mp3's on your computer at the same time.

Personally I think that the best use of the MD is the ability to keep your music around; I have at least 100 MD's archived (yes, I titled them all by hand!). This makes it REALLY easy to take a bunch of MD's with you on a trip (say an 18 hour ride to HK), and mix and match whatever styles you want. I take 12-15 md's with me all the time, which is a whole lot of music, and it's quick to change. Plus, my batteries last for two weeks or so (20 hours) before i have to recharge. I bet you can't tell me that any MP3 player can do that...

I have NEVER had my MD skip (it's a tiny Panasonic player SJ-MJ70) and I go running, biking...all types of stuff with it. The only time it skips is when you drop it on the ground, but we're assuming that you're not going to do that. The remote with the title and all the functions is definitely a godsend...

Compaq Ipaq = 100mm x 100mm x 31.25mm

Philips EXP401 = 92 x 119 x 29 mm

Sony MZ-R909 = 78.9 x 72.0 x 17.1 mm.

Panasonic SJ-MJ70 = 79.1 x 71.7 x 14.5 mm (it is only a player...just like the CD players listen above.)

Sony MZ-E909 = 77.6 x 71.1 x 12.5 mm

Not even close.

IMO the iRiver looks pretty cool because you don't have to convert your regular CDs to listen to them on it, and you have a huge amount of cheap storage for mp3s. Size is only an issue to a certain extent (unless maybe you're a small person :p), and the SlimX is pretty small.

I've probably met about 5 people in my life that use MD. Personally, I'd never use it because of my terrible experience with Sony products.

RoninRXN its obvious where your loyalties are...

My point was that the Ipaq player is the best of both worlds...

My RIO500 with 192MB smokes for size.... But memory is limited

The Ipaq allows more toons and still fits in a shirt pocket, BUT doesn't play normal CD's... But recording the media is by FAR faster then the MD

The IRiver allows everything but the size...

Oh yea, and we can't RECORD on the above devices...

So in my perspective, the IPAQ smokes the MD for all features IF you don't require recording capability. $99 MSRP is hard to argue with...

On the other hand.... I have been in some of my classes where I wished I had a digital recorder....

This thread isn't about how good the MD is and how bad everything else is.... In your opinion of course....

I asked if anyone had USED the Ipaq, not for you to research everything wrong with its size.... Sheesh... Each technology has it's pluses and minus's

Threadcrap elsewhere....

lol its the usual mp3 vs md, and sony sucks thread.

get along people, its all audio compression. If you have a discman I dont think you need a mp3 cd player. what? you gonna be travelling for all that 650mb of playing time? a cd played front to the end normally does the trick.

I have a sony md player and a sony mp3 player. Why? memory stick does suck, but so what? the nw-ms9 sure looks better than the rio, nomad and most of the competition. they rammed the format down my throat and i swallowed lol. im not g@y dont worry. they make the most visually pleasing products out there. the chicks love it,well thats why were all in this right? ;)

well buy what you like, but dont post thread crap like this suck or this rules. its a hot deals forum, not a you suck, my gay device rules forum. I think you can find those at toms.

btw when you all drive, this will all be over. its only cd then, ie no audio compression. now thats a lot better.

stop flaming and contribute to the forum with some useful deals.

have fun, but the mz-n1 pwns everything :p

<<

i'll just have to wait and see though. how fast did they ship for you? i haven't even gotten an email confirmation yet.
>>

If I remember right I ordered on Sunday night using the cheapest shipping (USPS I think) and I got it Friday morning.

Its kind of pathetic how RoninRXN hijacked this thread and turned it into a "my dick is bigger" type flame war. There's the Off Topic forum if you wanna pull stuff like that.

Exactly. What flame war? Me and gopunk were having a good convo in here...I don't see any hostility in this thread at all. Geez...

With the exception of the fools that posted "Oh, you guys are idiots, this is a flame war.", we're all well informed about both technologies and are talking about the pros, cons of each. Hell, me and gopunk agree on most points. Heh...and I've done this debate in Off Topic before. Turned into a 5 page thread.

Some people just HAVE to put in their .02.

Depending on what bitrate you're using for MP3s...

For the quality that I want, it's about even as I said about.

<< The IRiver allows everything but the size... >>

I know. I already said it's a great product. The best MP3 CD player I've seen so far.

<< Oh yea, and we can't RECORD on the above devices...

Very true. Price-wise, it's great. I bought my MZ-R909 at $235US...which is a bit more than the Slim-X

<< On the other hand.... I have been in some of my classes where I wished I had a digital recorder....

Of course.

It's great for recording lectures if you have a nice mic. 320 minutes of recording time for MDLP4...which is craptacular for music but great for voice recording.

<< I asked if anyone had USED the Ipaq, not for you to research everything wrong with its size.... Sheesh... Each technology has it's pluses and minus's >>

True...and we've stated all the pros and cons of each.

<< Threadcrap elsewhere.... >>

Oh gimme a break. It totally started out as a joke. Who the hell would post "Minidisc is better" 10x and THEN say that the Slim-X was a great product?

As I said, totally started out as a joke but then me and gopunk just went on into details.
