If you live in st.louis then i am shure you've heard of Schwi Gengel (or something like that). They just had a commercial that said if it rains one inch on Holloween any bedroom set, big screen tv, or computer is FREE! Someone please do a rain dance or something cause pappa wants a new big screen TV.

Hmmm, wish I was there. Might be worthwhile to pay someone to seed the clouds to encourage rain.

That one is easy to get out of, what are the chances of it raining exactly an inch. Even 1.0000000001 doesn't technically count.

Nahh man..you got it all wrong...If all they say is 'rains an inch' then that means that anything over one inch is still all good...Because if it rains 1.000001 inches that means it still did 'rain an inch'....of course it also rained '.000001 more than inch' but thats OK...

If any of you know anything about contract law, that store does not have to fulfill its end of the claim even if it rains more than one inch...sorry... It has to do with consideration- you did not give up anything to make the contract valid, so therefore they can retract it at any time..

What's the conversion? 1" of rain = 10" of snow, right?

That's a lot of rain.

I've got relatives in St. Louis. I'll tell them to do some dancing, but how many of these free things are they giving away? After dancing THEY may want the free stuff.

they did this in New Mexico, I think the store was (Ballios)or some electronic store. The special was if you bought a big screen tv and it rained on a certain day or snowed forgot what it was.You got the big screen tv for free. You had to buy the product first then got your
money back if it rained or snowed.Well guess what it rained or snowed on that day (Jan 1st I belive)and the store had to give everyone who bought
a tv thier money which they did with no hassel.I would give it a shot
but a inch of rain is alot.It does always seem to rain on holloween.
good luck

I live in Michigan and work at ABC Warehouse, a tri-state electronics store. We ran these sales ourselves, football scores or the rain/snow bit. They have an insurance company back them up with it. We pay the insurance company so much money and they pay out if the need arises. The store never worries about the results, they don't have to. The insurance company is the one to squirm. :)

Little insider info.

I believe you're incorrect Hey2. The consideration in this case is the purchase of the item in the first place. It works like this: You buy whatever within the alotted time before Halloween (offers such as these usually require the purchase to take place as much as 10 days prior to the day in question). Then if the triggering event occurs, you are refunded for the purchase. Hence the purchase itself is the consideration for this contract. A local jewelry store around here does it something similar for Christmas and 6 inches of snow. You might also be interested to know that in most of these deals, the company in question does not pay the money themselves. These things are funded by insurance policies, much like those used for Hole-In-One for a car or cash contests.

I have a friend that can fly choppers. Let's all chip in and get one of those buckets they use for fighting forest fires and put an inch of rain on the store!

This is not the same, but similar to the millionare shows.

The insurance company pays every time a contestant gets all the answers right and wins the big Million. I remember there was something in the papers about this where "who wants to be a millionare" shows' insurance company was complaining and threatening the show to put in harder questions because too many people were winning the million. They made the show make more trick questions and make them harder.

They are running the add pretty often on radio/tv and i really think they will stick too it, they are a company thats been around here forever and i dont think they want to piss people off. I heard that companies that do this just get insurance policies taken out so they dont have to worry about it.

I wonder how much is the insurance to cover something like that? Wish I was there. You can jsut return it if it doesn't rain right, hehe. Don't get a big screen, it'll be too hard to take back if you don't get it for free. Computer's much lighter and you could sell it to cover a new tv.

No, you got it wrong, you dont have to buy anything for this deal, you just wait and see if it rains.
