HOT HOT HOT, Crucial 1Gig DDR!!!

Also, you can get Samsung RAM with the exact same specs (& lifetime warr.) for $396 shipped from McGlen Micro. I have the Samsung RAM, it works great.

WEll if you buy any 1gig slab and think you can overclock very high then keep dreaming. Large slabs like this are for people that are running a server or a high-end workstation. Will it overclock, maybe - maybe not.
But also make sure this Ram will work with your board. Just because your board can take this does not mean this slab will work and be stable.

But I run Crucial with miron chips (2 X 256mb slabs) and it clocks well on my KT266a Shuttle AK35GTR board. So its not I don't like Crucial but when Ram gets this big per slab the biggest worry sometimes is will it even work? So samsung might work for some and crucial for others. But at this price be careful.

One good thing about Crucial. If you order it from them using their memory selector, its garunteed to work.

A one gig chip is all fine and dandy and nice... but kind of pointless if you have more than one open dimm slot.

Why not just get two chips of 512 and save yourself a hundred bucks or so? 2x160 = 320...
my $.02... that's what i did. Actually, i got one 512 and am waiting to get the other once memory prices come down again.

And in exactly 6 months you will be the owner of exactly $425 worth of slow and completely outdated memory as DDR-667 is being released for $40/256MB. 😉

Agreed.
Plus most motherboards will have difficulties recognizing this stick..
I'd go for 512x2 or 256x4.. read my lips: cheaper..

My god, in 6 months, why would anyone even want to own PC2100 memory. I think I'll just throw mine away and stop using computers alltogether

Is everyone forgeting about BGA memory technology? Its on the way!

I got 1GB stick, so I can fit more RAM in my SERVER when $$$ permits.

I know it will be outdated soon. So? What WON'T be outdated in the next few months? Just upgrade...

<< Samsung may be good but I know Micron is better.. >>

Samsung = #1 memory maker

Crucial/Micron = #2

First this ram is obviosly intended to be used for server applications, why anyone would by 1 gig sticks for a "home pc" is beyond me.... anyways

are you forgetting that BGA memory is already here? ie kingmax
or are you refering to some other BGA?
and....

Dunno what exactly you are basing your conclusion on, but I know alot of people still regard infineon rather highly.....

1. Crucial makes the most reliable product and they have the best service. I don't know how easy it would be to return a Samsung module under warranty, but Crucial is easy.

2. Can you overclock ECC modules? I thought overclocking only works with non-ECC modules, and since these are large modules, they have ECC since they are intended for servers... and if you are overclocking your server, you must really be nuts. 😉
