does anyone know when dell actually charges your credit card/debit card. i got in on this deal and immediately after the order, my bank balance went down by the price of the laptop. Now that I checked again (the laptop arrived today btw), my bank balance is back up as if I never got charged. Did dell make a mistake or will they charge me later?

Got my 8600 today. I ordered half an hour after the deal opened though (4:30am). I'm debating whether or not i want to make the effort to reformat and install XP Pro.

My 5160 shipped today - luckily, it was built in Nashville and I live about 30 minutes from Nashville. So, I'm getting it tomorrow. :)

Dell initially places an authorization for the purchase price to make sure your card can handle it. They keep the hold on for several days I believe. They apply the actual charge when it ships.

I'm in the same boat... does it come with all the software on cds so I can reinstall the stuff if I format?

my 700m is now in the "boxing" stage!! woopee!!! :D

it went from the "build" stage straight to "boxing" via the automated line. the online status went straight from "InProduction" to "boxing." how long in everyone's experience has it taken from boxing to receipt of the computer @ home? i'm getting way too excited now.

ooh and re: cpals, i really hope it comes with the software on CDs... it would be SUCH the rip-off if it didn't!!

It seems like dirty pool if it doesn't.

For my part, I prefer XP Pro, but only slightly, and certainly not enough to buy another OEM copy of it. I'd have to think you could get rid of most of the bloatware with some uninstalling and msconfig.

Yeah it does include the CDs. It might have some lock that only allows you to install it on the same OS though. i.e. you can't install winxp pro and then reinstall software.

My 600M is on its way
I was staying out sick today anyway and didnt even realize it was being delivered today.

I am trying to decide what OS to put on the machine.
I am thinking about reformatting to get rid of all the DEll junk and then reinstalling using the same XP Home CD. Supposedly it is an OEM CD and will let you just install the OS...

Or I can install WinXP Pro (SP1orSP2)..

Which one do you guys recommend for a home laptop that just the wife and I will be using for normal everyday stuff...

thx

I have XP Pro on my home PC, but I don't see much in the way of meaningful benefits on a non-networked PC.

Damn, I got an email today saying my shipping date is pushed back to Nov 16. :(

My laptop is in the boxing stage and today was the supposed ship date, so I'm just hoping this is an automated email that gets sent when the original ship date has arrived and the product hasn't shipped yet. *crosses fingers*

NOTE: Your tracking number is provided immediately upon shipment from Dell. However, depending on your ship method, it may be up to 3 business days (while the package is In Transit) before the Carrier shows the tracking information in their system.

Hmm...been 2 days now and still not registering as a valid tracking number.
