AFAIK it's been discontinued in favor of the upcoming 9200 which will have a 17" display.

manko, yes could not resist, but saved only Saved $543.30 not $750. :disgust:

Overall, I'm satisfied with the 8600. Nice upgrade from my HP 4150 (P-300MHz). Got the nice WSXGA+, NEC ND-6100A 8x DVD+R/RW burner & 128mb Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo options. Looks like I'll have to upgrade the 512 (2 256mb sticks) to 1GB when I can afford it.

I was looking at the 9100 with the 128mb ATI Radeon 9700 option, but it was outside my price range.

My 8600 is in the Boxing Stage.. if that is the case, I should seem mine by the middle of next week... They must have been ramped up to run so many thru this fast.... I only hope they don't skimp to much on the testing ... I will definitely wipe the XP Home and dual boot it with an Linux distro and XP Pro... also jump the memory to 1GB for now...

I had a Big Bucks $30 off from the latest catalog - $750 - %3 FW cashback, so I can't complain.

I was going back and forth between the 8600 and the 9100, but decided to go with the 9100, because it was a question of 1.5A/1.6A vs. 3.2GHz P4 at about the same price. Otherwise I cheaped-out on my config, I went with the standard combo drive (no DVD burner) and only 64MB Radeon (leaving room for a future 9800 upgrade).

It should be a nice replacement for my old P3 desktop.

yea, stupid popular 700m, although if you guys do call that number it probably will show that your order is a little further along than you may think. my order status on the 700m shows in production, yet when i called that numebr a few posts up it said it was in the build stage, which is not great speed by any means, but better than what it shows online.

Called yesterday and had my 8600 order revised to upgrade the screen to a WSXGA+. Went from (Kitting Build Testing) back to (Pre-production) Arrrgggggg! I will be reading you folk's threads about how much you are digging your new lappy while I will still be in the anticipation stag. Lol! Oh well, I am glad I was still able to do the upgrade after I noticed that I screwed up on my order.

I got an e-mail with the tracking number. I got the e-mail yesterday, although Dell showed that it shipped Friday.
