I think I'm going 8600. How much of a difference am I looking at between P4 3Ghz with a 128 9700 and a P Mobile 1.5 and 128 9600?

The 3 gig with the 9700 will be faster but the centrino has a much better battery life and is still very fast and light.

After looking at it, the deal isn't that much better then the 25% off of 1500. The reason why is because you don't get the free upgrades on the cd-rw, harddrive, & instant free shipping. For the same configuration, it seems to run for about $50 more. Only difference, is you have that $150 rebate vs the $50 rebate. Dell seems to have raised their cost on certain parts. But still a good dea for those of you who did not get in on the first 2.

Agreed.

If I could do it over I would have done the first $500 off $1499 plus $200 rebate because

Free upgrades
Free shipping

Dell is good about honoring their rebates.

im hoping they throw in a few free upgrades tomorrow, what are the chances of that?

even a free cdrw would be great, or a free hard drive upgrade

all the promotions listed currently on dell's website say they end on Wednesday... this promotion starts tomorrow, Tuesday?

Is this one of those things I should set my alarm for to order as soon as it becomes active to make sure I get the deal?

whats everyone's thoughts on resale? will the influx of systems on ebay kill the deal?

The 700m looks really nice has anyone tried out these portables. a lighter laptop would be great to move around with.

Shipping right now is $49 for ground, with a $49 mail in rebate, so it's effectively $0 (plus tax if applicable).

Promotions run until wednesday night (Thurs morning is more accurate). So, you'll be getting the free double memory promo as well.

When I configured an 8600 system to closely match the one I almost bought with the 500 coupon and 200 rebate..

this deal is about $25 better with one difference, this one has 512mb ram instead of 256mb, and the previous deal had a 40g instead of 30g hard drive.

I think the additional ram is more important than the larger hard drive.

I could save a bit with this deal by foregoing the cdrw/dvd combo drive, was free before but it adds $40 or so this time.

I dont think you should think of resale. Systems on ebay are currently around 500 bucks with 12 hours remaining. when peeps get hold of this deal, no one will be buying it on ebay. Unless you want to try your luck and hopefully get hold of a sucker :p

Darn, just ordered the Inspiron 8600 with the 30% off Dell Home coupon yesterday, Sunday Oct 17th.

Details...

1.50A GHz/400FSB, 15.4 WSXGA+, XP Home, Free upgrade 512MB, 128Mb DDR ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro, 60GB HDD, 8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+RW/+R) doublle-layer write capability, Graphite Swirl QuickSnap cover.

Unit price---$1811.00
30%off---------543.30
Sub-total-----1267.70
Shipping--------49.00
Tax--------------82.30
Total----------1399.00

Thinking of giving Dell a call to adjust the price, could save me another $206.70.

Would this still be possible? Or do I cancel the order. Order status shows in pre-production, with a Delivery Estimate: Thursday, October 28, 2004 - Monday, November 01, 2004

On the 8600, why are they running ddr333 when the fsb is 400 with the pentium M's? Wouldn't this hurt the performance? Is the fsb double pumped (like the p4 is quad pumped)? I am a little confused. Any help would be appreciated.
