thread crapping. If the subject matter of a deal does not interest you, do not post negative comments about it, or about other members, in the thread.

Wasnt this rule only enforced and taken seriously when we had that period of free bible deals?

If you look at the specs of the monitor, you can tell it is not completely flat:
Taken directly from the Sony specs list...
Aperture grill pitch 0.25 mm (center) - 0.27 mm (corner)

If that doesn't answer the question, then this will:
It is NOT completely flat

Nope they didn't do much to control the religion bashing that is for sure.

Edit: btw, threadcrapping is allowed in the hot deals forum, just not in the FS/FT forum.

You need to go back and delete this sentence as it is dead wrong. I understand where you are at trying to save people bucks that is cool, I just have a problem with your edit. Alot of newbies and trolls read that sentence and think they have free reign to be A-holes. Thats all man.

Oh and if it isn't perfectly flat I ain't buyin unless it gets a lil cheaper:p

awsome so in like 1500 years when the field strength has gone down a miniscule amount we wont have to adjust our contrast!
No, the magnetic field of the earth causes your picture to rotate one way or the other, IIRC. Unless you have an adjustment, it will go uncorrected. If the adjustment is made automatically and correctly, so much the better. The point is not that the field will change in any one place but that it is different in different places on the earth. This also depends on how you situate the monitor, and that (of course) is quite variable.

That gives me pause more than anything else from buying one of these off-lease monitors from Merkortek. If you get a grade A monitor your chances of getting a really good monitor are good. I figure most of these were not on all the time, or were in standby or some energy efficient mode that would extend the life. But some may have been run 24/7 with no screen saver, no standby or anything and they are apt to be sub-par. Just my imagination?

I checked them out on resellerratings and they have a pretty good score actually, so I went ahead and bought a $99 sony 17" cpd G200 monitor that was supposedly Grade A quality. I received the monitor two days ago, and there were scratches all over the top half of the screen. The monitor casing was also dirty and I had to clean off many stains, and there was this metal lock thing attached to the side of the monitor that should not have been there. I think it was used to mount the monitor on the wall or something. Anyways, I am in the process of returning the monitor back, but as luck would have it nobody answers their tech support line, its just an answering machine. You leave a message and they are supposed to call you back, haven't heard from them and I've already left 3 messages. I also emailed them. I would stay away from this company. From now on, I will never buy a refurbished monitor, that is just one system component that I will always buy brand new from now on.
I wouldn't give up on dealing with them at least inso far as getting them to replace this monitor. I've read a lot of posts about them and most people were very pleased with what they got. I think they clearly made a mistake with you and when you get a person on the phone I think they will realize that it was a mistake and will replace your monitor with a REAL grade A monitor. Clearly, your's is NOT grade A, and I've read a lot of posts like I say. Here's the thread.

ICE cold... CRT's are going the way of the dodo, get a 20.1" Dell 2000FP LCD instead...
For video and games, the LCD's don't yet compare with good CRTs.

not to crap, but this isnt hot in the least. These often go for 100-150 on ebay. I have 3 sgi 21" on my indy's, not all the same model though(1 of 3 is), I think the most expensive one was 175 + shipping, and it was new in box. Not to mention most sgi/sun monitors use 13w3 instead of the more common hd15 connector.

..and to answer the above questions about it being flat or not.. It's perfectly flat from top to bottom, but has a very slight curve from side to side(sides are maybe 1/4" back from the centerpoint).

About 2 weeks ago I got a grade b sony multiscan g500 21 inch from them and the only thing at all wrong with it was some glue left over from tape on the side, it took me about 30 seconds to clean it off. Other than that it looks like new and works perfectly.

Just a brief comment... please do your "homework" and make sure when buying a workstation monitor, like a SUN, SGI, etc. that is supports multiple refresh rates (some are fixed) and resolutions. A lot of times these monitors are higher grade (think lower dot pitch) than consumer grade models, just do your research. Otherwise you may wind up with a nice boat anchor :)
