Link to specs.

Edit: I think it's an older model as there are off lease units and the refresh rate is not very high, my $.02.

Just as an FYI I ordered a grade "'A" 21" Nokia from Merkortech last month. It is in perfect condition. Stay away from grade B stuff unless missing doors and such don't bother you.

ncorporates a system that automatically senses and neutralizes the earth's magnetic field and compensates for any changes it detects

awsome so in like 1500 years when the field strength has gone down a miniscule amount we wont have to adjust our contrast!

These displays are three years old, at best, and I don't think they're completely flat either. I wouldn't consider it a hot deal at $302 total. You could get better.

Also, their selling SUN 21" CRT's for $12 more...the newer 1920X1440 model also manufactured by Sony.

Get that one instead...

I believe FD Trinitrons are all totally flat.

Also, my bro and I both bought B-Grade Nokia 21" monitors the other day and his is perfect and mine just has a small scratch that I never even notice. Of course the deal was made sweeter by the fact that the place is 5 minutes from my house!

The computer science lab in our school has some 21" Dell-Sony Monitor, but as they are on and in use more than 10-15 hours a day, they degrade really quick.

I would suggest reconsidering ordering from MerkorTech. I checked them out on resellerratings and they have a pretty good score actually, so I went ahead and bought a $99 sony 17" cpd G200 monitor that was supposedly Grade A quality. I received the monitor two days ago, and there were scratches all over the top half of the screen. The monitor casing was also dirty and I had to clean off many stains, and there was this metal lock thing attached to the side of the monitor that should not have been there. I think it was used to mount the monitor on the wall or something. Anyways, I am in the process of returning the monitor back, but as luck would have it nobody answers their tech support line, its just an answering machine. You leave a message and they are supposed to call you back, haven't heard from them and I've already left 3 messages. I also emailed them. I would stay away from this company. From now on, I will never buy a refurbished monitor, that is just one system component that I will always buy brand new from now on.

The older Sony Trinitron models are NOT completely flat. They are flat from top to bottom, but have a curvature from left to right. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I've used one at work for 2 years now, and one at home for year (got it free, finally crapped out, so I bought another one.) I love the picture.

But you can get a good 21" trinitron for a lot less than $302 elsewhere.

Trinitron = flat from top to bottom, curved from left to right...

FD Trinitron = flat from top to bottom and from left to right...

Now is this really a FD trinitron or not, I don't know :)

i bought an SGI GDM-20E21 3 years ago from monitoronsale.com for $479. i think that the 5011 is actually a newer model but i may be mistaken. the 20E21 is NOT an FD trinitron - it is indeed curved from left to right but flat from top to bottom. i generally use the plug-and-play driver which allows up to 1600x1200 resolution in WinXP. i run mine at 1152x864 @ 100 Hz. when i had this running on win98 i found a driver for it that allowed higher resolutions and i believe a 120 Hz refresh rate as well. you can still find the 20E21 for sale:

20E21 for sale

the picture on that site isn't quite what mine looks like. mine is the signature gray granite finish. ... like this guy's:

some guy's monitor like mine

anyway, it's been a fantastic monitor. when i first got it, it had been shipped with an unshielded monitor cable and there was a lot of distortion, but once i bought a decent cable the picture has been fantastic. i have kept it on for at least 8 hours a day, i'm sure, for the last 3 years and i have had zero problems.

Edit: btw, threadcrapping is allowed in the hot deals forum, just not in the FS/FT forum.

Wrong and you should know better read the excerpt below directly from the rules

thread crapping. If the subject matter of a deal does not interest you, do not post negative comments about it, or about other members, in the thread.

I think this is a pretty good deal

well, the subject matter of the deal DOES interest me, and I'm simply offering an alternative route. I got basically the same monitor for $100 less...sounds like something worth mentioning.

edit:

When are negative comments allowed?- If there is any other reason to warn others about an offer or link.

I think that overpaying for a used monitor is a reason to warn others about a deal. This is what I meant by "threadcrapping".

Please list where or don't threadcrap.

He wasn't threadcrapping... You can just ask nicely.
And, yes, you can definitely get a better monitor for less money. I'd consider a good new 19" flat-tube CRT for under $300 a better deal than this one. Considering that one can get a nice Samsung 19" flat-tube CRT over at dell for ~$220 shipped, it's certainly possible.
