Isn't this MSRP?

Newegg was selling a 7770 for $139 a couple weeks ago and I wouldn't even think that is warm.

Yeah. Seeing as how 5770's/6770's have been $70AR lately with a free game, that price will have to come down before its a better buy.

The 7770 is faster then the 6770's though I believe and course uses less power. But $160 is a lot of money for one. You can buy two 6770's for that price.

isn't the 6770 or even the 5770 better or equivalent ?

7770 is slightly slower than a 6850, so quite a bit faster than a 5770 / 6770.

However, at MSRP it's not in ANY way hot, since 6850s are regularly found at $130-140 and $120-ish on hot deals... and are faster at most things.

7770 at $110 would be hot, $120 would be warm. ~$150 should not even be on anyone's radar until all the 6850s are gone and you have no choice but to pay up.

I just ordered Asus 6770 last week for $79 after rebate and a free Dirt 3 game. Not looking to play games on it, just needed to use it for 3 displays, where 1 display will be running HD cable tv. Pretty good deal esp with Gddr5. Looked into 7770 but too much $$$ imo for what I need it for.

To the OP -= here is a quick way to see how good of a value you are getting. Go to this site:

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php

Then sort the video cards by "Video Card Value". This gives a pretty reliable list of Bang for buck (although there usually is a minimum G3D rating you want to hit). As you can see the HD 7770 isn't bad, with a G3D score of 2000 at $149, but it's not great either. The HD 6850 is cheaper and scores much higher with a G3D of 2752. The HD 6790 ids also better than the 7770. The 6770 is also a much better deal at $99, although perfornace is about 10% lower. The HD6850 is really the best deal out there right now, ubless you really need a lower power requirement.

to anyone: i'm looking to replace my HD 4850 w/ a similarly performing card (could actually be worse-performing, but hoping not too much haha). I want the new card to be much cooler and take less watts at idle/load. Any recs? I saw a 6670 or 6450?

http://www.amazon.com/XFX-Radeon-HD6...1928203&sr=8-3

The 4850 has 800 shaders and 64 GB/s of memory bandwidth. It idles around 40 watts and loads near 115 watts.

The 6770 has 800 shaders and 76 GB/s of memory bandwidth. It idles at 18 watts and loads near 105.

So you can see the 4850 is actually an efficient card for its age and performance. For the money, the 6770 is the best price/performance/watt card, but the 7770 represents a *slight* performance boost and the new node and architecture gives it a max TDP of 80 watts. So if you are willing to spend $50 extra for the 7770 over a 6770, you will have both a nice upgrade to your 4850 as well as a 30% reduction in load power. You will not be happy with a 6450 or 6670.

thanks a lot for the responses! it looks like a 7750 would work great :)

It is also a lot closer priced to where it should be, IMHO. It is may be ~$25-$30 over where it *should* be (performance wise) where as the 7770 is ~$50-$60 too much.

You should post some feedback if you go through with it, I am sure that you are not the only one facing the same type of decision :)
