Staples.com has the Intellimouse Explorer for $59.98 (surprising in itself, since most B&M, including Best Buy, want a ridiculous $69.98 for this).

Use the new $20 off $50 coupon found here, and your net price is $39.98 with free next-day shipping. Lowest price on PriceGrabber from even slightly reputable places is $50 + shipping.

And before someone says "nuh-uh!": You will in fact still get next day shipping, since the amount before the coupon was greater than $50. I did it myself.

I have to admit, I didn't believe the hype surrounding this mouse until I got it. Wow. It really is incredible. Looks cool, feels cool, awesome for online games. What are you waiting for? Get it.

Staples SKU # is 391412.

(Note: Keep in mind you're going to have to pay sales tax since it's Staples.)

Yep. In stock items from Staples are delivered next day. Make sure the item says "1 day" for shipping. If it doesn't, you could be waiting awhile.

Gigantor: I have one of each, and I honestly can't tell any difference in performance. The explorer does feel better in your hand (a little bit larger, though not particularly heavier). The main difference is that the two extra buttons on the explorer are on the left, whereas with the optical they're one on each side.

Both mice scan at the same resolution.

Nice deal, especially since I paid almost $80 for mine when they first came out. :) Great mouse for surfing and business aps, but not for FPS games because if you move it really fast it will "confuse" it and will make you do some weird stuf or loose track of your target.

Willith: I couldn't disagree more. This mouse is awesome for FPS games. The precision is so much better than anything with a ball.... My movements are far more smooth, and accuracy in games like Half-Life (with snipers) is way up.

What do you mean it gets confused?

You may need to tweak the settings in the control panel to adjust the tracking. In Halflife and UT, you can turn on "mouse smoothing," which can help the game prevent your mouse from sending it too much data it can't handle.

Not trying to jump all over you... I just think your problem is with settings, not the hardware. I LOVE this mouse for FPS-ers!

Monty: The link for the coupon didn't work. Can you paste the URL?

Thanks, and good find!

I agree with MontyBurns, this mouse is perfect for point and shoot games. It sometimes gets 'disoriented' when u press a keyboard key (say spacebar for jump) while moving/targeting. I would recommend it to all gamers.

When I play Q3 and try to turn really fast it will loose track of my movement and cause me to aim up or down, but not the way I entended to move (confused). Maybe it's just me, but other than that the mouse is great and at $40 the price is right. :)

This is a great deal on this mouse! And it is a first rate desktop mouse too. I have to see if friends/family need a good mouse replacement.

However, as far as games, I would have to say this is not the best mouse. You just plain can't use it on a blank surface (it has to have details to track on) and if you do quick jerky movements (like when someone is sneaking up on you and clicking their AWP) you will lose tracking. Suddenly you are looking about 10 feet above their head and to the left.

I did use and tweak the Intellimouse Explorer for about 4 months before I met the Razer mouse. When I first heard of the Razer I thought "Good Gawd! $100 for a mouse?! Are they on crack!?" But after I got one (through a sweet Anandtech deal for about $60), I will not play a FPS without. The tracking is amazing and the on the fly sensetivity is an awesome feature. When you drop your MP5 to pick up an AWP, you can quickly adjust the sensetivity to make scoping in some no-good terrorists even easier.

Just my $.02

I must agree that this mouse is awesome for FPS I've read the same thing before that it loses track... I've never had a problem with losing track and I am one avid Tribes fan and play every night basically. I love the extra buttons and the being able to assign functions to them within a game relieve some of the work of the left hand on the keyboard. The only issue I have had with this mouse is that they go bad sometimes it's like all of the sudden light on it stops working and it's bye bye mouse. Fortunately MS is very good about replacing their hardware had a new one shipped out to me asap. I've broken 2 so far but the 2nd one doesn't really count as I took it on the road with me in laptop bag that gets manhandled a lil too much and this mouse's insides are a lil more delicate than most. Overall though a very good mouse.

The link DOES work, their server is just incredibly slow. Give it time. My guess is the reason it's so slow is that their site is weighted down with horrible, illegal, unethical coupon codes. Thank goodness we don't have to deal with that here.

And again, I've got to defend this mouse... I think optical is the only way to go for FPS. (Boomslangs are AWESOME, don't get me wrong, but I would never take a $100 mouse over this one).

It's true that you can't use an optical mouse on a glass or mirrored surface, or anything incredibly smooth with no pattern. But it WILL work on most desk surfaces, and just about any mousepad. I use Ratpadz (which are awesome. $13 at 3DCool.com.) Don't worry about this part of it too much... I'm using the mouse now, and it's working on everything I put it on (including a blank white piece of paper).

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember seeing an Intellieye Explorer (the MS optical mouse with the buttons on the side and the red translucent design thang on the end) for 29.99 at my local (Vienna, VA) CompUSA along with other deals on software...

I'll check later on today and verify.

javeed: That's incredibly unlikely. This thing is $50+ everywhere.

It was likely the next model down, the Intellimouse Optical.

They have two versions of this, the one with buttons on the side and the one without. The mouse without the side buttons cost around 27 I believe at electronics botique.
