It's next day because Staples has their own delivery force. They don't use FexEX or UPS.

This mouse can't handle jerky movements. I couldn't play Tribes with it at all :(

The new ones have a label claiming "New Improved Tracking". We'll see.

When mine was still working, it is awesome. The 2 extra buttons are also functional in the game. One acts as a "ALT" and the other toggles Run.

Some peeps mentioned they had problems with the mouse. Specifically, the light turning off etc. I found that the cable coming out of the mouse if very unforgiving to any type of tension. Too much tension and you'll loose contact. You can jiggle the cable and it may come back, so If you buy one of these, try to limit the tension of the wire. I like this mouse but to be honest I find it's contruction rather cheapish compared to lower priced optical. Nice deal though!

I purchased this mouse from VA last year for $20, a few weeks ago it started to flash and then it just broke and i called microsoft, 2 months later i had one. But anyway i opened up the broken mouse and unplugged the cord inside and tested the wires and found that one had broke by the towards the tip of the mouse, after i repaired the cord and reshrink-wraped it works fine.

I believe if you look in the staples circular for this week (ending 1/20) the intellimouse optical is 39.99 instead of 49.99 that the website says, so point it out when you call.

I still cant find the number yet. It may take a awhile.:-(
I would be very interested to know how do you open up this mouse.
I dont see any screws on it and I am afraid pry it forcefully would
destroy it. Basically I have 3 somewhat broken mice at home.
Would love to fix them if possible. Does microsoft replace bad replacements?

Something to point out to FPS gamers who have trouble with your optical mouse. Your mouse sensitivity is probably far too low. Therefor you need to move the mouse more to get it to go a short distance. And if this is the case when you need to do a 180° turn you feel the need to flick the mouse as you would with a normal one... anyways just up your sensitivity in the game and you should be fine.

weird. I've had my explorer mouse for about a year now I think and I haven't really noticed any probs with it when playing games (quake, UT, Half-Life, etc..) took a bit of getting used to @ the get go, adjusting mouse sensitivity in the game settings, etc...but aside from that, I dig the explorer mouse.

one weirdness - I got a mouse pad with a really, really wacked-out design on it, and it confused the crap out of the explorer mouse
(remember the Spirograph from like the early 80s? it looked like a design that thing would make - BTW think WIRED sent it to me)
The cursor jumped all over the screen and whatnot - now I got an everglide pad instead, and the mouse rocks even more!

but I am curious about the *improved tracking thing*

ok, I'm done rambling :)

Thanks for the heads up, was looking for a deal on this mouse.

Just ordered, and I added the free attache bag ($59 value) to it as well. The coupon code for it can be found at fatwa**et. Note it says that it only works for orders over $100, but worked OK for me on this order.

For you people trying to get support to replace mouse try this link (click) , the screws are under the grey pads (stickers) on the bottom of the mouse.

do you guys who have tried both the explorer and the intellimouse optical find that the extra $10 or so dollars is worth the difference between the explorer and the optical?

RacerX: I'm asking you, how much did Staples add on to cover next-day shipping? Whenever they price match another merchant, they add that merchant's cost for next-day shipping to the price match, since that shipping method is built in to Staples' prices.

DId you actually DO this, or are you just saying this is how you think it would work?

Just a few words on the IM Explorer (even if they are a few days late):

1) Mouse Rocks! Don't ever have to deal with jumpy cursor again... no cleaning of mouse balls, etc! I originally thought the size was too large, but, it is actually quite comfortable once you start using it. I prefer it now over the old "tiny" intellimouse size.

2) There are issues with this mouse. I had a problem with the left button doubleclicking in place of single clicks. It does it randomly. I called the 1800 # (which I don't have handy right now) and they asked for the serial and sent me a new one. They were backordered so it took a while but when they shipped it came 2-3day mail.

FWIW, I think the problem was not in the button mech but in the cable. As mentioned earlier in this thread, the cable is very sensitive to tension and over time will degrade (Apparently). I've had the new mouse for almost the same amount of time and this one still works fine, so, it may be a design flaw that they've later fixed.

3) There are bugs with Video Drivers, Intellipoint Software, and Scrolling in IE 5.x. When using the mouse wheel, various issues (such as machine hanges, etc)... only if you are using the intellipoint software that came with the mouse. (Problems go away with default drivers -- uninstall intellipoint software).

My specific problem is if I scroll up to the top of a web page and keep scrolling the wheel up, it goes back a page. VERY ANNOYING if you were trying to get back to the top and scrolled once too many. (I looked for a setting to disable this thinking it was a "feature" but have not found it yet, so I am using the default drivers and have uninstalled the intellipoint software--latest version was 3.2

So, other than the problem with the intellipoint 3.2 software, I've had 0 problems with this replacement mouse. The only online FPS I've used this with is Unreal Tournament and the mouse is not holding me back at all... I wish I could say it was! ;) In fact, it has definitely improved my tracking and accuracy.
