Yeah, any experience with Acomdata and the quality of their drives? Anyone know what chipset is used (Oxford911, etc.)? The Acomdata web site does not inspire confidence, as it simply says "Site under construction; check back in a few weeks". :Q

What brand/model 7200rpm drive is included?

Loooks like both $14.92 rebates link to the exact same rebate pdf file. Since each one has 2 $14.92 rebates, just fill the same form out twice? :) New Rouchelle it is. Yikes!

I noticed that too, any chance CUSA just screwed up and accidently listed the rebate twice?

A search on Google brings up some reviews of the 120gig model from Acomdata from MacWorld. They give it 4 stars. Runs on the Oxford-911. Not bus powered, it appears. Using IBM drives...

Anyone called up yet to confirm that the 2 rebates are legit and not a mistake? And are you guys concerned the rebates wont get fullfilled?

This seems pretty hot, thinking about just buying it to strip the hard drive out and use the chassis for other drives, maybe adding a baydock if it is 5.25" inside

...just read the form, seems you legit. But you guys are saying New Rochelle rebates are shady? Anyways, I bit on this on, any deals on firewire cards? BTW, firewire is better right? I heard it uses less cpu overhead, anyone know for sure?

I bought the Firewire one... and immediately took it apart :)

It's an IBM 7200RPM drive... all I could see on the Firewire controller board was Lucent. One nice thing is that it doesn't have a power brick... the downside is that it's huge! It's a 5.25" enclosure but sadly unless you want to hack up the bezel you won't be able to use it for CD roms and stuff (which is what I was hoping to do). I also like that it has a power switch

It's working fine in my XP system. Just had to go enable the partition in Disk Manager and format.

The case is the same like the one used from ADSTech
for their "USB 2.0 Drive Kit" (but without the 5.25" bezel necessary to install
a CDRW/CD drive). The drivers work for both drives.

When I bought my Acomdata USB drive several weeks ago it contained a
Samsung SV4002H drive.

I am very satisfied with the performance. Only the build in fan (for the power supply)
is kind a loud.

Hope this helps?

Yes, that's possible - since it's a 5.25" case you can even fit one of the old 5.25 drives in there <smile>.
But there is a seal over the screws to remove the cover. It says: 'warranty void if seal broken'.
The warranty for the case/drive is 1 year for labor and 3 years for parts.
So I guess you have to take the chance if you open it!

That seems to be the "trend" with all/most of the external Firewire/USB cases....
