Got a snail mail Monday that there's been a class action suite against the mfg of these - apparently certain models didn't record over 500 MB.
See htttp://www.memtekcdrecordersettlement.com for details. It has to be manufactured before 12/31/98

Mine works fine, but the document says that if I submit a valid claim Memtek will send a replacement CD-R/W drive of equal or better (at least a 2 x 2 x 6). Worst case I get a newer 2x drive, best case I get something better (what could be worse? ). :)

They will also send 50.00 if you have proof you owned the drive and no longer have it to send to them.

My CD was manufactured in December 1998 :)

Four years is a long time to expect someone to have proof they owned this recorder. I used to own the 1622 version but no longer have it or any of its manuals.

I'm sure Memorex must have some kind of record for people who sent in warranty cards. But they most likely wouldn't admit it.

1. Sorry for the repost, I posted it to F/W, wasn't sure if it was here.

2. They must have the warantee cards - that's how they sent me the letter about it.
