This is a great deal. The 3803 is the best Price/Performance Denon receiver and reviews on the home theater boards are favorable for this receiver. 6th Ave is a great retailer and also a Denon Authorized reseller so Denon will honor the warranty. I bought a 3802 from them back in May and they shipped it out 1 day after ordering it. They also double boxed the shipment which is a nice touch.

Should we assume that the 3802 is back in stock...and they are No longer substituting the 3803?
Any feedback/input appreciated
Thx

Just call them and say your friend (pick a name from the HTF thread) got one and ask if you can get it for the same price. That's what I did and the 3802 was in stock.

Deal is still alive, just ordered mine. I just told the guy that I heard they were subbing the 3803 for the 3802 and he said maybe....how many, I told him one and he said yeah I can do that. Warning they are backorded for three weeks but for this kind of deal I can wait for it.

Thanks OP!

Anybody thinking about a receiver and considering waiting for a new Outlaw model should go ahead and buy now. As noted, their previous receiver (which was a great unit in its day) is discontinued, but their most recent newsletter admitted that it would be a year before a new one is available. (That means at *least* a year, probably more, given their history and penchant for taking extra time trying to make sure all bugs are fixed before shipping a new product.)

That's a good deal on the 3803. I've seen some great deals in the past at Onecall.com on Harman Kardan receivers, in fact I bought an AVR325 B stock for about $325 shipped earlier this year. (Retail was around $600 at the time.) HK's receivers are similar quality to Denon, both are very good.

As far as the OSD is concerned with the 3803, grab a spare composite "video" cable and run it from the monitor out on the receiver to the input on the TV. This makes OSD configuration a snap.

What if you don't use the video features on the 3803. I haven't decided which way to go on this but have noticed that most users feel it is best to run your video inputs directly to the TV and avoid adding a hop threw the AVR. I have mine directly into the TV now but I also don't have a surround sound reciever, yet. I even have had people who own AVR-5803's tell me NOT to run the video threw the 5803 and into the TV. Why do people spend so much money on the 4800 and 5800 series if they aren't going to use the video processing?

Shyte. Very nice deal. I bought mine when it was first out for $1199. It uses the same DAC as Denon's THX models.

ICXRa, I run all of my video devices directly to my TV. Even thought the 3803 has 100MHz bandwidth component in/outs I still want to avoid a loss even if it isn't noticable. There really isn't any vide processing done in the receiver, so think of it as a pass-thru or way to upconvert composite or s-video to component.

vspt, the 4802R (THX ultra2) doesn't use Burr-Brown DAC's like the 3803 & 5803, instead it utilizes the Analog Devices 24/96 DACs

Doh you're right I forgot the 4802 series never got an upgrade, actually they downgraded the remote (some may argue that point) but did recall the 5803 getting the Burr-Brown DAC's. I am having trouble getting things out today, pass thru is what I was trying to say not processing.

Glad to see you concur with the others about going directly to the TV from your video processors and avoiding the pass-thru.

Woohoo, just got mine yesterday. It rocks! Although there is some video degradation going from S-Video to Component upconversion. Still this deal is available, but the unit is on backorder. Do it, it's worth it. :)

The reviews I read said hte only degradation was with composite to component. How bad is it with s-video? That is one of hte reasons I'm getting this...

Well, this deal still applied on Dec 17th. Yeah! Had to call three separate times though to get someone that would do the deal for me. I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival!

I have this receiver. Paid MUCH more for it. It's excellent. I previously owned an onkyo 5.1 dts/dolby dig. This is noticeably better in many areas. The sound quality when just watching normal tv is really nice. The s-video -> composite works pretty well. It's nice being able to hook everything up to one unit.

There's also the 2803 which has basically the same features, but a few less inputs and less power. If they mark that one down a lot too, it's a killer deal.

The 2803 is considerably different in the processor used as well as there is no upconversion. There are other differences also. I wouldn't consider the 2803 unless you want a budget receiver. The 3803 is the start of the serious receivers that Denon puts out. I paid around $800 for mine when they first came out. The 3803 is truely an impressive receiver. At $650, it's the best thing out there (IMO).
